Lushlife – “Foreground” (Grizzly Bear Cover)
Since the beginning of the year, Rough Trade Publishing has been releasing daily singles as part of its “A Song A Day Keeps The Pain Away” series, launched to combat the anxiety of the post-election climate and with proceeds from every subscription going toward the Southern Poverty Law Center. We are currently on day 74 of the 90-day series, and Philadelphia rapper/producer Lushlife delivers its latest selection, a politically charged cover of Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest-closer “Foreground.” Lushlife flares up the urgency relative to the original and turns the mood dramatically more dour, spitting some heavy bars at both the front and back ends while leaving the middle exclusively to reimagine Edward Droste’s crawling vocals.
