Watch Stormzy Cover Frank Ocean In The BBC Live Lounge
The London grime star Stormzy is known as one of the most intense and combustible rappers in his scene, but he showed another side during a recent session in the BBC Live Lounge. Bringing in fellow UK artists Wretch 32, MNEK, JHus, and Ghetts, he performed some of his slower, more dramatic tracks. And then, with a live band and a choir backing him up, Stormzy showed off his flat-but-expressive singing voice when he covered “Godspeed,” the lovely gospel-inflected song from Frank Ocean’s Blonde. It’s a bold performance, and it works. As Pitchfork points out, the Frank Ocean cover starts at the 11:33 mark in the video below.
Stormzy’s new album Gang Signs & Prayer is out now on Merky.
