Battery – “My Last Breath”
DC youth-crew hardcore heroes Battery released three albums in the ’90s before breaking up in 1998. Since then, they’ve reunited exactly once, for a Revelation Records anniversary show in New York in 2012. But Battery are coming back; this weekend, they’re headlining Damaged City, a massive DIY hardcore festival in their Washington, DC hometown. (If you are anywhere near DC, you should absolutely go. I was planning on going before dad stuff got in the way.) And now, as NPR points out, Battery have released “My Last Breath,” their first new song in 20 years. It’s about trying to be a stronger person so that you can raise your kids better, which is sort of the perfect encapsulation of grown-up hardcore sentiment. Listen to it below.
You can pay what you want to download “My Last Breath” at Bandcamp; proceeds go to Baltimore’s Center For Infant & Child Loss. Meanwhile, Revelation recently released Battery’s career-spanning compilation For The Rejected By The Rejected.
