That Blocked New Prince EP Is On Tidal
It’s the one year anniversary of Prince’s death and an EP of some of unreleased tracks that was supposed to be out today in commemoration got caught up in a legal battle earlier this week. Prince’s estate blocked the release of Deliverance by filing a lawsuit against sound engineer George Ian Boxill, accusing him of violating a contract between himself and the late musician. In addition, the estate and Paisley Park requested that “any and all masters, copies and reproductions” of Prince’s work be returned to them. In a cruel (but not wholly unexpected) turn of events, the EP leaked anyway. There are no winners here.
UPDATE: The EP — blocked from being released on Apple Music, Amazon, and other services — is now apparently streaming on Tidal. Tidal (and Roc Nation) had already been locked in a legal battle with Prince’s estate over the right to stream his music.
