Stream Molly House Records Vol. One
Kelly Lovemonster and David Richardson, the founders of popular Bay Area queer dance party Swagger Like Us, have formed a new label called Molly House Records. Their first sampler EP is out this Friday, and it’s dope. Founded in Richardson’s production under his davOmakesbeats moniker, the five-song set shows off a broad cast of characters performing a wide range of party music, as Richardson explains via email:
Each track embodies a different mood, yet the project feels cohesive. Since it’s the label’s first EP, I wanted to give a glimpse of what’s to come from us. You’ll hear a little bit of r&b, club tracks, hip hop, and some vogue elements.
Richardson’s mix is eclectic enough to segue from Southern rapper Bbymutha’s smooth, sneering hip-hop club track “Dark N Lovely” to “Kitty Clap,” a frenetic collaboration between Baltimore rapper TT The Artist and San Francisco vogue artist Sir JoQ, to Saturn Rising’s beat-laden dreamscape “Love Takeover.” There’s not a bad track in the set, and it all really does hang together as one unified vision. Molly House Records Vol. One is out 5/5. Pre-order it here, and read this feature for more info on the label.
