After fans launched a campaign for Chance The Rapper to run for mayor of Chicago, the Coloring Book MC covered the June issue of Ebony magazine and opened up about the likelihood of a potential run in politics in the future.

“I would never run for any office or government position,” he says. “I’m not into it. I think politics is a reason why a lot of stuff doesn’t get done. There’s a lot of favors, and a lot of people are held back by their intentions of being re-elected or the things that they owe their party or constituents. I think when you’re in my position as an artist, I can say what I want and talk about the issues that matter.”

Earlier this year, Chance demonstrated the charisma required help people in need when he went to bat for his hometown against president Donald Trump in an interview with ESPN The Magazine.

“I hope he’s coming in to do some type of federal overturn of our state and city budgets in terms of schooling and housing,” said Chance. “I’m tired of niggas talkin’ about Chicago like it’s a Third World country. Like, that it’s not a place of booming business with a very successful downtown and all types of new development. It sounds like he was announcin’ he was going to war with Chicago. I don’t like to look at shit through that lens.”

On several occasions, he showcased his altruism, most notably in March when he donated $1 million to help Chicago Public Schools after a meeting with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner, where Chance said he received “vague answers” from Rauner on issues in Chicago.
