Big Baby Gandhi Returns With “1515” Video, Gandhi Luther King Jr Mixtape
Way back in 2012, the Queens rapper and producer Big Baby Gandhi, then a Das Racist affiliate, released the impressive mixtape No1 2 Look Up 2. In recent years, he’s produced for artists like Heems and Antwon, but other than the riotous post-election single “Ban This Dick America,” he hasn’t done a whole lot of rapping himself. Later this summer, though, Gandhi will return with the new mixtape Gandhi Luther King Jr. And today, he’s shared the hard, contemplative, EPMD-sampling first single “1515.” In its video, the Pope holds an assault rifle to Gandhi’s head, while Southeast Asian YouTube ephemera floats across the screen. Check it out below.
Of the new song, Gandhi says:
I MADE THE BEAT, I’M RAPPING OVER AN 80’S EPMD SAMPLE. THE SONG FOLLOWS MUSICAL THEMES OF THE UPCOMING MIXTAPE TITLED, GANDHI LUTHER KING JR” BY EXPANDING ON BOOM BAP FORMATS AND INSERTING WOKE LYRICS IN A CASUAL WAY.
Gandhi Luther King Jr is out 7/28, and you can download “1515” right now for free at Bandcamp.
