Meek Mill Arrested For Allegedly Popping Wheelies After His Tonight Show Taping

A good night turned bad quickly for Meek Mill on Thursday (8/17) when the “What You Need” rapper went from performing on The Tonight Show to getting arrested for reckless endangerment. The arrest was in connection with an incident on Wednesday night (8/16) in which Mill allegedly rode his dirt bike on the streets of Manhattan and popped wheelies while not wearing a helmet, according to a New York Police Department spokesperson.
The 30-year-old rapper (born Robert Rihmeek Williams), was charged with one count of reckless endangerment on Thursday night after performing the politically charged tune “YBA (Young Black America)” with The-Dream on The Tonight Show. At press time it was unclear if Mill was still in police custody and a spokesperson for the rapper could not be reached for comment.
Mill was arrested around 10:15 p.m. Thursday after police saw an Instagram video from Wednesday night that purportedly showed him riding his dirt bike in an unsafe manner on the streets of Upper Manhattan. WABC reported that a 911 call from a witness brought police out to the intersection of West 207th Street and Sherman Ave. around 8:23 p.m. Wednesday night, but the group was gone by the time officers arrived. According to TMZ, officers were able to identify Meek, riding without a helmet, from videos posted on is Instagram live feed.
A video that purportedly chronicles his arrest features Mill denying the NYPD’s claim that he was recklessly riding a dirt bike the night before, with an unseen officer claiming to have viewed social media footage of the rapper — who has widely chronicled his love of motorcycles on his feeds in the past (see below)– riding on the streets of Manhattan; it is illegal to ride dirt bikes or ATV in New York city.
