“Mental Health And The Music Industry” Event Replacing Frightened Rabbit At Meltdown Fest
The Cure’s Robert Smith is curating this year’s Meltdown Festival in London. Frightened Rabbit were slated to perform in Queen Elizabeth Hall on 6/19. In light of Scott Hutchison’s recent death, a “Mental Health And The Music Industry” panel has just been announced as the initially-planned event’s substitute.
The discussion will feature Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses, Stefan Olsdal of Placebo, musician and poet Dizraeli, Christine Brown of the music charity Help Musicians UK, and clinical psychologist Dr. Jay Watts. A statement from the Southbank Centre reads, “The music industry has seen a number of devastating losses of life in recent years, and ever-increasing numbers of musicians are speaking out in the media and in their songs about struggles with mental health.”
Meltdown Festival’s 2018 lineup includes My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Low, Placebo, the Cure, the Psychedelic Furs, Mogwai, and Death Cab For Cutie, among others. The festival will run from 6/15 – 6/24 at London’s Southbank Centre. Get tickets here.
