Phosphorescent, the folk-rock project of Matthew Houck, hasn’t released an album since 2013’s Muchacho. That’s about to change. Houck is back today with the lead single from an LP called C’est La Vie, out this October on Dead Oceans.

The song is called “New Birth In New England.” It’s a gospel-tinged easy rambler, a bright and friendly return after five years away. During that interim, Houck fell in love, started a family, moved to Nashville, and built his own studio. Sounds like he’s been putting it to good use. Compared to the project’s humble, somber beginnings, this song is vibrantly rendered and bursting with joy.
