Petite Noir – “Blame Fire”
Petite Noir is the stage name of Yannick Ilunga, a resident of Cape Town, South Africa who bends pop and R&B and futuristic dance music up into one exceedingly personal whole. Three years ago, he released the debut album La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful. And now, as The FADER reports, he’ll be back this fall with a new mini-LP called La Maison Noir / The Black House.
First single “Blame Fire” is a propulsive ripple that, like so much of Petite Noir’s music, isn’t especially easy to categorize. Here’s what he has to say about it:
It is a word that I created to express the way one feels when you have been down for so long but the drive and fire is still inside of you. You are thankful! It’s all about channeling the revenge energy.
The track is a personal journey into my life and experiences. This is the first time in my career that I have ever been this honest with my art/music. Being an immigrant and being forced to mobilise has taught me how to navigate this current reality using the gifts that I have been given to me. To turn my unique experience of exile into something bigger than myself.
And here’s the song:
La Maison Noir / The Black House is out 10/5.
