Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
It’s Valentine’s Day, the perfect day to curl up with your sweetheart and binge-watch five hours of Hulu’s gender-flipped, Brooklyn-set High Fidelity remake. I know what you’re wondering: does the new version include the Beta Band’s “Dry The Rain” and a reference to Stereogum? The answer is yes and duh.
This is ridiculous, I would never hire anyone who wears a fedora.

Isn’t High Fidelity supposed to be about a shitty white dude/record nerd striving to overcome his own toxic masculinity all while written with humor and empathy? Is that not how dumb people read the movie? There have always been idiots who react to media like this. Just because you tell a story about a shitty person or shitty people, doesn’t mean you’re endorsing their behavior. Humans are generally pretty shitty quite often (remember who our president is?) so it makes sense to tell their stories as well. Not to mention, reflecting bad behavior can be a good for people since they can see someone else act the way they often act and see how shitty it is. People can grow and change. I can’t imagine how much more of a low key sexist I’d have been if I hadn’t seen 500 Days of Summer enough times to see how dumb Tom is. |

The lead singers have completely different voices. Their production is different. Tame Impala has always emphasized guitars more than MGMT. Lyrically, they discuss different topics from different angles. Tame Impala tends to be more explicitly direct about actual personal issues (“The Less I Know The Better,” “Cause I’m a Man,” “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” etc), whereas MGMT is a rabbit hole of poetry in the style of T. Rex/Syd Barrett (“Of Birds, Moons and Monsters,” “Flash Delirium,”) mixed with tongue-far-in-cheek societal critiques on fame and technology that border on parody (“TSLAMP,” arguably “Time to Pretend,” “Congratulations,” etc.) MGMT has been in blooming creatively as of late with this wonderfully dark gothic synth angle. Their newest single, “In the Afternoon” exemplifies this shift that was first heard on their album “Little Dark Age” from 2018. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABtQrFn7zQs Tame Impala seems to be moving into a type of nu-disco/dance music. Soft rock disco soaked in a world of self-driving cars and Alexa. I haven’t listened to their new album all the way though, so I’m not gonna judge yet. Anyway, I think those are some of the differences between them, and that’s why you’re getting downvoted. Also, you called them “Lame Impala,” when they’re definitely “Game Impala.” |

Idk why I’m getting downvoted into oblivion. I’m not saying either of them are good or bad, but just saying they sound exactly the same to me. If someone told me the tracks above were a new MGMT album I wouldn’t think twice. |

The media controls us. Next time you read a think piece in the NYT about Trump, just remember how much money they make off advertising and clicks by constantly posting about Trump and then go to your expensive apartment and eat out at a trendy expensive restaurant and sit around with your other rich white friends and lament about the issues of the poor and how sad it all is |
