Last week, a casting call was posted to the movie industry site Backstage looking for extras in a film called Black Days, which is “based on true events about the last days in the life of grunge music icon Chris Cornell.” The film has an official website that touts it as coming from “the cast of the Academy Award winning Walk The Line,” which in this case seems to mean Johnny Holiday, who had a small role playing Carl Perkins in the film and also makes music under the name Kid Memphis.

But as Pitchfork reports, the film is not authorized by the Cornell estate. A representative told them that Black Days is “not sanctioned or approved by the estate” and that “no one contacted the estate for any information.” Per Backstage, the movie is supposed to start filming in Los Angeles next month, with proper COVID-19 protocols in place. The companies associated with the film are Road Rage Films LLC (associated with Holiday) and Amerifilms LLC, though neither seems to have much of a presence.

Last year, it was announced that Brad Pitt was producing a documentary about Cornell that would be directed by Peter Berg, with the involvement of Cornell’s widow Vicky.
