Watch Riz Ahmed As A Drummer Going Deaf In Sound Of Metal Trailer
Riz Ahmed is one talented dude. As a rapper, he releases music under the name Riz MC and as one-half of the duo Swet Shop Boys with former Das Racist member Heems. As an actor, he’s been in movies like Nightcrawler, Rogue One, and Venom and won an Emmy for his starring role in HBO’s The Night Of. He’s very good at acting and music. And his new movie, Sound Of Metal, sort of combines both things.
In Sound Of Metal, the debut feature from filmmaker Darius Marder, Ahmed stars as a drummer who goes deaf. “Ruben is a drummer and one half of the duo Blackgammon along with his singer girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke),” the official synopsis reads. “A former drug addict, he is sober for four years. Suddenly, he begins to lose his hearing. His sponsor makes him go meet Joe (Paul Raci), who leads a deaf community. With the help from them, Ruben struggles to accept his situation.”
IndieWire reports that Ahmed learned American Sign Language and took drumming lessons for six months to prepare for his role in the film. And it’s getting some very good buzz, with critics singling out Ahmed’s powerful performance for praise. Amazon picked up the rights to the movie after it premiered to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and you can watch the newly released trailer below.
Sound Of Metal his theaters 11/20, and it’ll be streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting 12/4.
