Angelo Bruschini, the English guitarist who contributed to Massive Attack’s canonical Mezzanine and performed live with the band for years, has died. “How lucky we all were to share such a life together,” Massive Attack wrote on their social media. “Such a brilliant, eccentric talent. Impossible to quantify your contribution.”

Bruschini passed away after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He revealed his condition earlier this year, writing: “Twice now I have been told ‘Good luck’ by specialist’s at the hospital over lung cancer, I think I’m fucked! Had a great life, seen the world many many times, met lots of wonderful people, but the door is closing, think I will write a book.”

Bruschini got his start as a member of the Bristol band the Blue Aeroplanes. He first linked up with Massive Attack in the early ’90s, sitting in during sessions for their 1994 album Protection. He was asked to join as a member of the touring band, and he played on their 1998 masterpiece Mezzanine. He also contributed to 2003’s 100th Window, and continued to tour with the band as a guitarist.
