British nu-disco queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor was thrust back into the spotlight last year when the movie Saltburn used her 2001 hit “Murder On The Dancefloor” to soundtrack its memorably salacious final scene. Today she’s released her first new song since then, a heater titled “Freedom Of The Night.” Following a trio of albums made with Ed Harcourt, the pulsating track marks her first dance-pop offering since 2011. A music video from “Murder On The Dancefloor” director Sophie Muller is coming next Friday.

I have always been someone that needs music to help me recalibrate, and “Freedom Of The Night” is all about that feeling. Music as a form of release and a little bit of hedonism. I’ve always needed that energy in my life, and I know I’m not alone. As the song says, sometimes you need to give in to what you want.
