Do I dare to disturb the universe? Lest I crush the softest among us The universe has us locked in a death-spin Not enough fucking Too much of wandering
Beautiful Jason Molina: just to see your name written down made my soul shiver. I genuinely do not know where i'll be without your music.
John Fiske defined and applied the concept of producerly texts to media products that allow its audience to participate in the production of its meaning through an exercise of what he calls excessive reading. Producerly texts have loose ends that escape its control, meanings that exceed its own power to discipline them, gaps wide enough for whole new texts to be produced in them by their readers. In other words, a media product does not have to give up having a clearly defined message, but in so far as it limits its potential meanings, it limits its potential circulation. A producerly text is, therefore, one that can be enjoyed, accessed and read on multiple levels: it can be taken at face value, but it also leaves room for other preferred readings which may include deeper and more active interpretations. Kanye's video for "Famous" is producerly vertigo. And I'm thrilled that Herzog recognizes that.
Wow, that's very well noticed!
I also love the extra track Boy King Trash, they did what Phoenix have done with their last record, assembling bits of unfinished tracks. I really love the acoustic bits and it made me think that I would love an Automatic For The People kind of record from them.
These dick rants were a colateral effect to my discovering of the Monday podcast by Bill Burr. And these dialogues were a way for me to quote Norm MacDonald endlessly.
It's too early for me to compare it with the rest of their stellar discography. I think it might have my favourite vocals from them, though.
The sum of its parts is smaller than the record as a whole, definitely. It is beautifully sequenced too. When I listened to Creatures I thought this could only be a killer opening track, but they proved me wrong: it closes beautifully the first half of the album.
All growers suffer from this sort of reviews. These kind of records need time to be fully absorbed and enjoyed and WB and oM are definitely prime examples of bands that require a lot of dedication to its listeners.
Massive grower in did. Funny how a review that literally mocks the lyrical content of the album, says that Ponytail (amazing track!) is the best cut - that's the one song about going in and going out. The second half of the record is starting to sound even better than the first one. Anyway, great to see that there is a lot of people enjoy this great record.
But yes - it is a departure. A musical one, at least.
I'm a fan and I'm not put off by it. Critics seems to be paying to much attention to the lyrical content and not the music. The middle-life crisis syndrome sounds such a poor way to listen to the album: great guitar work, fabulous grooves, itchy synths, and magnificent vocal performances. I even find it very accessible in the overall context of their work.
This comment section is gonna get ugly. What about the last Wild Beasts? That P4k review really rubbed me the wrong way. The record is slowly turning into one of my favorites of the year so far - right now I'm psyched about 2BU and Colossus, but the whole thing is stellar. Any die-hard fans of Boy King around here?
I've just listened to it and I am flabbergasted.
I borrowed them, not steal. And it was 5 boards. Oh wait: 15-20=-5.
You're welcome.
As a Portuguese I am slighyly offended. Agree with the rest, though.
English. He's very shy about his Spanish, though he speaks it perfectly. I had the chance to interview him at the time and he was very friendly and fun. I really lov the guy.
He's been doing this solo acoustic guitar gigs for years now and I had the chance to watch him two years ago in Portugal. He was great. So I don'T think this is an indication of things to come album-wise.
Slightly underwhelmed by this one, but I should know better. All their records have been major growers.
Oh and great track by the way. This one got me more excited than the one from his forthcoming Sun Kil Moon album.
And this hatred might just be a vehicle for his performance. Koz has proven many times to not shy away from where his muse takes him. But I definitely share some of your feeling.
I love Koz and MJ. And when I say that I mean their music. The rest about them does not compute in the way I enjoy listening to their songs. In the great scheme of things I hope that all justice will be served and all good music will not be unheard.
There is only one thing worst than Trump: the way pundits and the inteligentsia is handling him. From my once upon a time peaceful correr of Europe, it seems to me that everybody is insulting not him but the voters that somehow are willing to consider the possibility of what the hell voting on Trump. That really pisses them: to be treated like retards or morons or monsters because, acording to a vast chunk of media, only monsters or morons or retards would ever consider to vote in Trump. I'm afraid that this is helping him to win the election. But hey, I might be wrong.
I swear I didn't hack Bloc's account.
As I said before, me loves Tidal.
After 100% if you add the last verse of Let Down.
Guilty as charged.
