"Having to choose between quality and quantity, I made the obvious choice of choosing quantity". That's a Michel Gondry quote, but it could be a Robert Pollard one. That's why I love both. Fuck quality: I much prefer quantity where I can put my filthy hands on.
Wow I loved reading this but I have two words for you: John Deacon. That amazing bassline is all his.
God knows I have tried to behave this year. Merry xmas everybody!
I'm Portuguese as well and also truly shocked with the ramping violation of human rights by Eduardo dos Santos government. In spite of being one of the African countries with more natural resources per square meter (oil, diamonds, etc.), Angola has the HIGHEST rate of child death IN THE WORLD. The oligarchy that rules the country has been buying the biggest Portuguese companies in key sectors such as energy and digital communication desperately looking to buy some kind of legitimacy towards European countries. There is no excuse for Minaj to accept this kind of blood money.
Good Lord, this is tremendous.
Its obviously very tricky to judge any of EODM actions after the terrible Bataclan events. But I felt disappointed by the fact they turned their first interview in a sort of media event (and Vice even teased it with promos) and now by the choice they have made to play in a U2 concert. Their first concert in Paris should have been in Bataclan and there as no rush in doing it: but the gesture would have been much more powerful.
I hear ya but Vanishing Point > Xtrmntr is one hell of an exception.
As if the world needed any more proof of the Grand Canyon that separates the talent of these two guys.
I know this will never be considered AOTY stuff, but goddam' no music has filled me with more joy this year.
Damned. Second listen through and I think I might have slightly overpaid.
Space Oddity (1969), Ashes to Ashes (1980) and now this (2015). David Bowie knows how to take his time to build an arc. Amazing.
Am I the only fan of Stina Nordenstam Dynamite around here?
Good Lord, this brought tears of joy to my eyes. The five foot assassin with the rough neck business seems ill, buy i'm sure this performance will be bring many fruitful years to his life.
This could be my favourite batch of songs of 2015.
"That’s not a brilliant rap line or anything". Yes, it is. Tom Breihan: I love you and everything you write. And not even the fact that you consider Gucci's "Lemonade" more important than Drake's "Best I Ever Had" changes that.
Stunning. I came here ready to fully hate this song due to its theme Tom's description ("basically a weathered and sad Kozelek monologue, with musical backing and with a chorus of backing singers coming in at the end").
Good Lord, I was about to jump on that one. How can someone who has seen the show say the exact opposite of what David Brent is and represents? Good fucking Lord.
That's not pereslushivaem…
Good Lord, this really moved me so deeply. Do not miss this one, guys.
This is not cynical at all. Just a calibrated combo of ignorance and laziness.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
My favourite CYHSY album.
Oh boy , am I excited with the prospect of new Radiohead album coming. Could we please talk ONLY about that?
Wait a minute: I've just noticed that Timothy Bracy and Elizabeth Bracy were also responsible for the amazing Van Morrison countdown. You guys rock.
Now isn't this just absolutely wonderful? As someone who hasn't even heard half of the records on this list, but has a real difficulty in imagining any Richard Thompson album than is BETTER than the astonishing Shoot Out The Lights, the next thing I'm gonna do after I publish this is to order #1 and #2. Fuck yeah.
1) Kanye West has truly revolutionised hip hop music video: as a protagonist and director. Runaway (long version) is in my Top 5 of my list of Important post-2000 Things That Happened To Hip Hop Video. 2) Hype Williams and Dave Meyers deserve the award more than Missy Elliott. And you can add Mark Klasfield to that list too. 3) Eminem videos (the first bunch of them at least, up to The Eminem show) are fascinating: a clown's mask painted on a tragic face tortured by his past. 4) Death Grips are the most vital, innovative and great thing that happened to Hip Hop Videos since Spike Jonze.
Beautifully written piece, Catlin, but definitely not the kind of write-up I like to read about a piece of popular music. But once again: beautifully written.
Ouch. But fuck the artists moral and behaviour when it comes to appreciate their music.
There's so much morality on Gum these days. Of course that what Cee-Lo has done recently is condemnable, but I miss the days when someone could enjoy the music of a genuine piece of trash without even knowing he was one.
Hahaha that was amazing. Loved it. Pretty sure Conan nailed it- “That was a workout!”
This is some next level irrelevant bullshit. Kind of amazing, really.
