Blood on the Tracks hasn't got one single drop of melancholy, man. It's pure conjugal apocalypse.
"There are countless breakup albums out there in the world, and even plenty of divorce albums. But off the top of my head, I can’t think of another record that addresses this kind of personal apocalypse so starkly and expressively." Blood on The Tracks.
Wow, stunning. I'm surprised with the pristine quality of his voice: no signs of The Wolf Man in here. Beautifully produced, band way on the background, full of space. Wow.
I would honestly give one testicle to be there watching it. The good one.
Those Eps are great and I'm glad you've got this one on vinyl. I've been hooked with Lese Majesty for months now. Such a hard record for me to get into but it really pays off in the end. It's Pink Floydish as hell.
Things that I am sure: 1) Endless River, Division Bell and A Momentary Lapse at the bottom of that list; 2) Saucerful and The Final Cut are transitional albums: though I love them both, I understand if they are placed in the bottom half of the list; 3) Wish You Were Here and Animals should always be placed together: they are different sizes of the same (great) Pink Floyd period and they deserve to be upper half of the list. 4) Atom Heart Mother and The Wall are highly divisive records: I wouldn't complain how somebody would rank them. Personally, I feel they have both aged not gracefully. 5) Dark Side of the Moon, Meddle and Piper At The Gates of Dawn should be at the Top 5. 6) More is a charming little unpretentious record that is terribly underrated. People should give it a second chance. 7) I am utterly irrational towards Ummagumma so I should shut up about it. BUT GUYS: this is one of the most mysterious, pervasive records I have ever listen in my life.

You gotta be kidding me: Sparkles, the 6th great track from Of Light samples Ummagumma's Careful With That Axe Eugene!!!!
Good Lord, reading this really made me nervous. Ummagumma is one of Pink Floyd's best and most important albums (go ask Shabazz Palaces who sampled it masterfully). The live record is still one of the trippiest, scariest records I have ever heard and the second one probably one of the most underrated pieces of pop music ever. The same goes for a Saucerful of Secrets and More: deeply enjoyable records. This ranking makes no sense to me at all: how come Piper is not in the Top 3? Good Lord, this thing is so Adam Egretly.
Man, that was tremendously disappointing. Love Noel, love Marr, but this is rubbish.
Wild Beasts - Present Tense Spoon - Inside Out
Could someone please acknowledge the fucking amazing production? My sub-woofer is going maaaad with that second track.
When those four guys were together they were the greatest and I think that Up was still an amazing record.
I really love Pom Pom, I really love it so much and I think it's great that there is people whose taste I've learnt to respect that find it awful.
This one or Ariel Pink's Picture Me Gone. Entre les deux mon coeur balance.
Good Lord! Makes you wanna punch yourself in the face.
What a terrific and underestimated record.
To say that Nabil and Hiro Murai are two of the best video directors currently working is an absolutely ridiculous statement. In the last two years (and from the top of my head) people like Canada, isaiah Seret, Xavier Dolan, Emily Kai Bock, Eric Wareheim, Keith Schofield, Megaforce, Jonas & François, Cyriak, Fleur & Manu, Yoann Lemoine, AG Rojas, Romain Gravas and Andreas Nilsson are all far better music video directors than this overrated pair.
As Norm MacDonald would say: Good Lord, that was a ridiculous thing to read.
I find ludicrous to blame Kozelek for the whole publicity of this episode. It was websites like Stereogum who did that at the beginning and he simply amplified it, riding the viral wave. There is so much morality and bullshit around music today that it makes me honestly sick.
I've been listening to this today and it's such an amazing record: heartfelt, beautifully performed, sung and produced. I did enjoy his first solo output, but this is, to my ears, a much more accomplished record than Lisandre: it flows better, has better songs and the lyrics, god damned, they just hit so deeply inside of me.
It's not about sound fidelity but being able to perform at all.
I don't care what the Pitchforks of this word say: I fucking love her record.
Yeap. I felt really bad putting it at #6, but the other records are soooo great.
Have you tried this http://www.unblockyoutube.us ?
I really would like to know your opinion guys about how you rank their records after their comeback. They all sound pretty great to me. Here's how I rank them: 1. Class Clown Spots a UFO 2. Motivational Jumpsuit 3. The Bears for Lunch 4. Let's Go Eat the Factory 5. Cool Planet 6. English Little League But then again English Little League is still a great record and Let's Go Eat the Factory a real grower.
I guess that both Miguel and Jessie Ware audiences are rather the people who actually listen and love their music than what you personally think is supposed to be their "normal" key-demographics. You know what I've listen to today while working? Aphex Twin, XTC, Deafheaven, Dylan, Funkadelic and Queen. Guess I'm just a scary monster, super freak.
I love Mark and I've been a fan since, well, 1993. But he's got a horrible attitude live. Some years ago, he didn't performed in Famalicão, Portugal, because he wasn't payed before the show. He didn't care about his fans (like me) who rode several mile to see him live. He just walked away. Now that T-Shirt stunt is a typical Leon Curb Your Enthusiasm "flip-flop that motherfucker" move. Love it.
Interactive video for MTV. Can't you see the irony? They made the corporation pay the only kind of music video that cannot be broadcasted by them. And MTV usually do not pay shit for the music videos they broadcast, actually they receive money to broadcast them.
It should have been from Best to Worst.
Oh boy. It's exactly because Al was the true creator of the music video parody that he deserves the overwhelmingly positive comments: he was ahead of his time and now it's more than natural for a lot of fans to celebrate his vision. Plus his new videos are great and up to date: both musically and visualy (his lyric music video is top notch).
I Found Out is #1 for me. Good list.
Are you telling me that there is no place in the interwebs for a music news website that does not delve into this kind of socialite news garbage? I'm sorry but I refuse to believe in that because they actually already exist. It's a shame Stereogum chose not to be one of them.
And now there's a fucking update. Good Lord Almighty.
