Ok. It's been six months since my first comment on this thread and right now (obviously) I absolutely adore Ghost on Ghost. Funny how it took me so long to really enjoy it. Somehow it sounded very dated to my ears.
I'm a Paralytic Stalks sucker myself and it would be #2 on my list. Shame the list does not include their Eps and B-Side & Rarities compilations: some of their best songs can be found in these.
Alien Days didn't disappoint me at all and it is, in fact, one of my favorite and most played records of this year. I mean: I'm a big fan of Syd Barrett and Kevin Ayers, so this fresh take on prog psychdelia is really right down my alley.
"It’s a bit facile to call Reichstadt a master of combining pop and indie sensibilities, partly because it’s hard to say what those two words even mean anymore and partly because the things he does are way subtler than that. What Reichstadt does is he helps artists find a sharp, clear, eminently pleasant sound that still makes plenty of room for their own quirks and peculiarities to shine though, a place for hooks and personality to exist without one ever detracting from the other."
This is utter bullshit.
I mean no disrespect and I've been enjoying this record a lot, but shouldn't all the world be wearing by now white gloves and dance to Janelle Monae's Electric Lady? What an amazing album, dude.
Beautifully written but I am surprised you didn't mention how the title and the artwork are both a rather obvious homage to Bruce Springsteen first record: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J..
Man: am I the only one who used to absolutely LOVE Sigur Ros and nowadays can't even physically bring himself to listen to their music? It never happened to me with any other band: even my 12 year old passion for Queen still endures as a guilty pleasure. But these guys? No way.
Anyhow, when I loved them, Agaetis Byrjun was obviously pure perfection.
