One could say Jay-Z already had some oversight in Jersey design when he picked up the Nets and brought them home. (I grew up in NYC and Philly; teasing NJ is hardwired. Sorry NJ friends.)
The reference you are looking for is Jeff Buckley's Grace LP cover. (This also goes for the opening arpeggio of the song, and Buckley's title track.) Took me a minute, but there it is.

There is something poetic about you making this metamorphosis on a post titled 'An Argument With Myself,' Michael_. Thanks for the link, gonna click around man.
Don't worry dude, I'm not going anywhere. And frankly I'm sad you didn't mention "jokes" in that laundry list of mine! That's where my classic overreaching comes in. I never thought I'd say THIS, but what happened to the O.G. 'gum hecklers? At least the "you are pretentious, go back to India"s of yesteryear had some flavor. (I do admire your adhering to Stereogum-style and using an apostrophe before "'Gum." Respect where it is due!)
Sadly, we still haven't secured any interns around here.
Happily, Tom and Corban are bringing enough energy and wit for a factory's worth.
Stick around a bit and stay calm, I am sure you will love it around here, ddog.
The biopic takes place before Grace because it couldn't get the rights to his music. Jeff's mom, Mary Guibert, has been working on an "official" biopic since Jeff's death, essentially. The scene and setting for the Penn Badgley film is a pretty creative workaround, but a workaround all the same.
Oh man, I know. I watched most of the first season and am just looking for the right Sunday to marathon the new one. I've been keeping up with the big moments (i.e. that scene with Dane Cook, which is literally the biggest moment) via Videogum. I can't wait.
This isn't currently playing, so you'll have to DVD it or whatever, but Scott and I were out last night and praising the BBC show The Shadow Line to the heavens. Get into that, if you haven't. It's a British show reminiscent of The Wire, and will not disappoint you.
I understand, I wasn't trying to be reductive by including the link. I did find the broadcaster's apparent agenda and her interplay with Mr. Howe to be symbolic of some larger, and charged, disconnect between peoples and social factions, though. As I hoped to express in the post, there's no one easy message, cause, or lesson, and I am certainly not trying to suggest there is. Which doesn't stop us from trying to find the sense in it. Anyway, yeah. Very sad stuff.
You are easily impressed.
You'll like the story even more now that there is a link. (In case you don't want to read again to find it, just click here.)
Cass McCombs, Chelsea Wolfe, the Antlers, Man Man, The Men, Frank Ocean, tUnE-yArDs, John Maus, Tom Vek, Grouper, and Kurt Vile are among those that shifted in and out of position for me. These lists are snapshots in time, snapshots take time to develop. We'll see what more exposure brings come winter time.
Independent music in this context is not synonymous with "independent label," and it is one that does not include jam bands. This is a long and semantic discussion but you were right when you said that you know what I meant in the first place. (BTW the distinction I'm drawing between independent music and the jam band scene is not necessarily pejorative to either side, but it is a valid distinction.)
Just RSVP. The RSVP page is a little confusing, I realize -- the "badge" pickup they refer to is a venue-specific badge (i.e. PureVolume House), not an official SXSW laminate. Just RSVP and you should be in good shape.
@derek: it has been done.
@btr: maybe after people hear the rest of this record new gang gang posts will get the same stroke of traction. that is probably wishful commenting, but that is how it should be, anyway.
