Yeah, while he especially is *everything* in that picture, that also looks pretty uncomfortable down there. Hope he wasn't dancing too much in that get up.
Milk the Art Angels era...? Those albums are 5 years apart! Did they even do anything at all regarding Art Angels the last 2-3 years of that period...?
*amazing Okkkkk, guess I am a little drunk and very tired. I'm not French though.
Oh that's Amazing. It just showed up as a regular 800 number on my phone, so I didn't pick up, but on the bright side I have it in my voicemail now. A week or two back I was goofing around while watching something with a friend over Zoom and dialed a 1-800 number based off of Queen Latifah's name, and it turned out that it was actually a phone sex hotline. So for that first second or two I somehow thought the message today was from that hotline (even though it's not like I stayed on the phone sex hotline or talking to anyone? IDK).
Did anyone else who called the St. V hotline get a robocall today? I've never been so delighted/tickled to get a robocall. (...which is, admittedly, not the highest bar. But still! It was kinda cool.) I totally forgot for the first couple seconds though what the Daddy's Home hotline was, and why I had called it.
Yeah, I saw it earlier this week, and then earlier today too. Using Chrome on Android here. Granted, I'm still as happy for Lady Gaga that she got her dogs back as I was last week. Also, thanks for the hot tip, tilly of the eastside!
IDK, I legit LOL'd once he started repeating the "got my latest record project" part with the long pauses between each word. The lyric video helps too. He actually does kinda sound like he's yelling at clouds!
Probably the only good thing to come out of this Van Morrison album is that song title really making me want to listen to "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" today.
Wonder if the rebels all went to the same place the cowboys went to. Yippy yiiii, yippy yay, yippy yiiii, yippy yay, yippy yiiii, yippy yeeah yeah-yeah yeah-yeah yeeeeaaaaahhhhh
Actually, OK, putting up a video of Annie answering the phone that also directs you to call a number, and then having Annie answer the phone when you call the number is pretty cool. Hats off, St. V! I liked the bit of music in the trailer more than what I heard on the phone, but it's hard to really gauge a song from these clips. Something to look forward to later in the week then!
Hm, well this isn't the normal reason I call 1-800 numbers with "DADDY" in them, but what the heck, it's good for ya to try something new.
Yeah, that's exactly how you spell Haley Hendrixcksxsxsx. Good job! I always add a fourth sx by mistake. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Jenny Eliscu just put up an interview with Victoria a few weeks ago in one of the episodes of her LSQ podcast, and Victoria mentioned that they were working on new music prior to the quarantine, and have been working on it through the quarantine as well. She didn't say anything about a time frame, but considering it's been three years since their last album, this makes me feel optimistic that we'll see an album from them this year.
(Well, and Monica Rambeau appeared as a kid in Captain Marvel, but so far I don't think there's been a ton referencing back to her in that movie?)
Oh damn! Well hot tip then: they started this video series called Marvel Legends on Disney+ right before Wandavision came out, and there are two videos that briefly go over Wanda's and Vision's character arcs in the movies. They are each like 7 or so minutes long, so it shouldn't take a large chunk out of y'all's life. I guess that won't catch you up on the side characters that have been in other movies (pretty much just Darcy and Jimmy Woo), but I think will catch you up with everything else.
Huh. Robin Thicke is still of note? I didn't realize Peggy had another one coming out, this time before we've heard most of the tracks...! Looks like James Blake co-produced one of the songs with Peggy too, sweeeet.
We live in such a weird timeline, but I will at least take the giving love to "Rebel Girl"/Bikini Kill/Kathleen Hannah part of this timeline.
I don't know what the percentages were, but at least some healthcare workers were flown in. There was at least a story from Boston's NPR station about Massachusetts health care workers getting flown down to attend, IIRC.
Between "Ponyboy," SSION's "Dogs on Asphalt," and Fischerspooner's "Stranger Strange," late 2017 - mid-2018 was a very good time for queer kink pop songs from forward-thinking LGBTQ artists. (If you leave out Fischerspooner, you could even just say it was a great time for queer animal-themed kink pop songs.) I am pretty vanilla tbh (and really, when I have seen pony servant play at Pride it runs up against what I'm personally comfortable with, though consenting kinksters you do you and have a ball), but goddamn will I ever wreck my hearing to "Ponyboy" while singing along about putting the pony in its place, and shout-sing every word enthusiastically to "Dogs on Asphalt."
Absolutely devastating. I remember watching the video for "Ponyboy" for the first time, and what a rush it was--it felt almost like a window into some strange and fabulous alternate dimension where SOPHIE was our first openly trans pop star, and a song about kink play that sounds like a machine exploding and reforming in 4/4 time could be a Top 40 hit. What a fucking visionary she was. Rest in peace, legend.
Not sure if a demos album would typically make the cut for the albums of note list, but I know I am particularly looking forward to hearing all of PJ Harvey's Is This Desire? demos this Friday. (Also, it's been a slow start to the new year for me, musically speaking, so her demos have been pretty much all I've been really psyched about so far.)
I think the bigger revelation to me was how knowledgeable he was about that chipmunk junk.
"So, you like riding the D, eh?" ...considering how in some situations that question could get you fired/cancelled, I feel like this is a funny question to ask in the comments of a post about being cancelled.
Seriously. In the words of Michael Bluth, https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b7/f6/f4/b7f6f409e68715245296a33ef5452b3c.gif
Fun fact, I also just found out that a pizza place nearby has freedom fries on their menu. Now, IIRC, this place got new management and a new menu two or so years ago. Which begs the question... who the hell is still mad about France not joining us in the Iraq War over 15 years ago...?! I mean, are the owners just youngins too young to be aware of where the term comes from, or is this actually still a thing to some people in this country?
Yeah, I was wondering if Trump swung by a I Love This Bar and Restaurant to get some freedom fries after this.
I have not listened to the Morgan Wallen album, but I did think it was funny that the album's called Dangerous considering that the only thing I know about him is that he has* 0 regard for Coronavirus precautions. *Or had? But let's be real, probably has.
(Granted, we did also get that fire PJ Harvey demo two days ago, so there was that at least.)
So it occurred to me a little earlier today that 6 days into the new year, back in 2010, we were blessed with a 10+ min tour de force from The Knife, along with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock--this song celebrating the anniversary of a monumental scientific paradigm shift by way of hocketing vocal mutations, primal percussion, lyrics weaving together the scientific contents of The Origin of the Species with a chapter of Darwin's personal life, and an array of vocals from drastically different singers, including the opera singer who provides the utterly thrilling emotional climax of the song. And 6 days into 2021, we got... well....
After Uh Huh Her I started appreciating how muscular the songs on Stories sound in comparison, but yeah, I'm with you, this album sits in the lower half in my ranking of her albums. (Best era for PJ b-sides though.) And I agree that the demo album sounds very promising based off of this! Kinda surprised they dropped this already, since the Is This Desire? reissue and demos album doesn't come out until the end of this month. I hadn't even really thought much about the demos past the 90s albums, though I guess the White Chalk demos are probably going to sound very close to what was on the album.
https://www.reactiongifs.com/r/lucille-portable.gif "Unfortunately it was not Covid-safe anywhere in Florida." TELL ME ABOUT IT Can't wait for the Super Bowl to come to my city in a few weeks.
What a great way to celebrate the news yesterday of Florida breaking its record, yet again, for new cases in one day. (17,000 this time.) Sometimes I really can't wait to get the fuck out of this state.
Yeah, I'm a little jealous too, I don't remember the video quality being quite that good on the iPhone I had back in '92. https://i.giphy.com/media/HiDfhTFGZ4geI/giphy.gif
Yeah, Mezzanine > (most) music And that is a good ass cover too. (Also, when I watched it last night it was split into 5 clips, so kind of nice to have it in one piece again.)
I mean, this: "PECKNOLD: Was that James Murphy’s idea?" (Which, BA-ZING! Amazing.) One of us! One of us! One of us!
I wound up liking the whole "new future cult leader" persona and aesthetic more than the album as a whole (and the live performances were fantastic), but then again, the only albums of hers I really love all the way through are Actor and MASSEDUCTION, so take that for what you will. But yeah, her discography is varied enough to where I guess it shouldn't be too surprising if there's gotten to be less of a consensus pick over time.
Well, OK, if you're going to be all serious about it, then yes. Though maybe we would all be better off if Van Morrison had looked at this as more of a rockdown.
Those albums are probably still the consensus picks? (Though Actor >>> Strange Mercy IMHO) MASSEDUCTION was pretty divisive, and it felt like more people didn't like it than loved it, at least around these here parts.
"Rockdown," LOL, that is truly rotten. Though now I know how I'm going to describe my 2020 for the rest of my life.
I'm always interested in hearing new St Vincent, but not gonna lie, I'm excited that it sounds like the last era has wrapped up. As much as I love MASSEDUCTION, by about the sixth version of "New York" I was ready for something else.
