This album should be discussed and debated at least as much as DAMN. was. There's a unifying, singular vision to all this and it's carried out masterfully. I didn't even know I needed an album of rap-dance bangers this badly. This slays HARD and I'm ready to listen to nothing but Vince for the next couple weeks.
Mine is definitely Crabs in a Bucket at the moment, it's just as amazing as Tom's description in the PE promised it to be. I ain't even mad that my boy Justin Vernon is not actually singing on it, because that song is just outstanding.
But honestly, all of this album is pure straight fire
I will need a few more listen but I can stand behind this already. Summertime '06 was fantastic but the length of the tracklist might have been a bit in its detriment. there are a shit ton of great tracks all over it but sometime's they're a bit scattered for me (although, despite what I just said, that album never feels too long).
In this case, this is just a compact, quick colleciton of insane tracks with a singular vision throughout, and it's phenomenal IMO
I've only listened to the first 20 seconds because QOTSA deserve wayyy more than a shitty quality youtube bootleg, but fuck those 20 seconds are promising as fuck
Ever notice something strange with the word "Grammys"? No? Well, look at it again. See how the two "m"s, when placed next to each other, have 6 downstrokes? or should I say... 3 pairs of 11? Yeah, thought so.
Have to add, that is one of my favorite articles I've ever read on any music website, and proved to me again why I feel like Stereogum is my home on the internet. Thanks rj, blessed be daddy, all hail the Doris. Love y'all
Honest to god, this is the first Killers song I've enjoyed since Mr. Brightside (or Somebody Told Me, whichever came later). I never understood why anyone still gives them any coverage, but this is the first song of theirs that's a little fun and not just lame in... well, forever. I find the comments very funny anyhow cuz I just can't see how this is any worse than any of their music
OKNOTOK also comes out this Friday, but Man of War and Lift are already out there and they are INCREDIBLE. Man of War in particular is just outstanding, great arrangement and it's just really great to be able to finally listen to it in normal studio quality. Don't forget to listen on Friday
Also, does the specific Vince Staples album description means Tom has heard the album!?! I hope that just means it's getting a Premie and not that, you know, tom has heard it
Haven't heard this yet but I'm 100% sure Murder of the Universe >>> everything else not Vince Staples this week. Seriously, it's so fucking ridiculous and great
Same thing here. That was my introduction to the whole Joshua Tree scene and basically all things stoner rock from Cali or anywhere else. Remember Fu Manchu?
This is gonna be way down the comments for anyone to notice, but still:
Listened to this song twice earlier while doing some stuff and wasn't sure what to make of it, then read all the comments here and was worried. But now I've binged this song like 5 times straight after a night of drinking and goddamn it is fucking great. No one else sounds like this band. I'm so happy
Gonna ride this comment to ask how the hell half the comments here took issue with the song, but not a single one mentions how god awful both the album and single art are
Full disclosure, everytime I read someone call Spoon "the most consistent band", I think to myself "bitch have you not listened to Queens of the Stone Age"
I started at No One Knows, than went to Era Vulgaris (which was just released then), then Rated R > Songs for the Deaf > Lullabies > S/T > every possible b side I could find. Every fucking album of theirs is amazing. Most consistent band in the business.
