I'm sure that it. It's their 25th anniversary this year so I guess they're trying to do a "full circle" kinda thing. Fortunately it's a sludgy beast and not the drone version this time around
Man I'm really glad to be disagreeing with Chris on that one. I think this is a fucking solid album, it goes hard and has a lot of catchy fist-pumping hooks and great riffage (though I do miss Jim Ward). It's not Relationship of Command, but none of ATDI's other albums were, and they were all very good (In/Casino/Out is still fucking great). They were never going to top Arcarsenal here, but few songs do. This album is a perfectly acceptable follow up to a landmark album that came out 17 years ago, and it's going to be really fun live. They definitely still got it
Exactly the other way around for me. I've never actually listened to any of his albums, but I've seen him play last year and that show was absolutely brilliant. This song is just... I don't get it
I can agree with your take, although I believe the DP album was a very strong offering , and I personally LOVE In Mind but I'm a very big fanboy perhaps (not going to argue about Spoon - there's 2 of their best ever songs there IMO but the album as a whole lacks). But with regards to the new Mac DeMarco, this is a huge contender for his best album, it shows a ton of growth from his former ones, and both 2 and Salad Days got BNM'd. Can't see why this one didn't
After my first listen I told a friend that this is going to be their Amnesiac, but on repeat listens I'm favoring the In Rainbows comparison (which is even better!!)
Considering that all I really wanted was an album similar in quality to the previous ATDI track record, I think it's great that this album absolutely delivers. I was especially worried after that garbage Refused albums couple years ago. This one is fucking great
FJM was my least favorite out of all those albums tbh (maybe less so than Spoon), but even those had some perfect songs and I'm willing to argue would get a much higher score if they came out last year. It really feels to me like there's some directive to avoid BNMing certain types of white dude indie rock
With this (incredible) album falling just short of 8.0 on the Other Site, it joins the rest of the major "white indie rock dudes" to fail to gain any BNMs/scores above 8.0 this year (Real Estate, FJM, Dirty Projectors, Spoon).
Besides being ridiculous (all of those albums are fucking great), is the same sort of fate going to befall on Grizzly Bear and LCD Soundsystem as well? or are they going to be the bands to break through the Conde Nast barrier?
I used to be like that, but than I began liking them enough to want to see them live. And ever since the very first time I saw them they became one of my favorite bands.
What I'm saying is, definitely try to see them live if you get the chance
I found both songs to be really great, but this one is just stellar. That bass heavy part is especially great. Going to keep playing this in the car the next few days too, it seems
Seeing LCD Soundsystem play in a 1000-capacitiy club in Barcelona last year has been one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life, and largely eclipsed both other LCD shows I've been to (one in a [I think] ~4000 capacity, and one in the main stage at Primavera). So I think it's better for everyone that they play more small/medium sized shows!! They really shine on these
Woo! This is awesome news. Now I need to contemplate giving this to myself as a birthday present despite the hefty price tag
The deluxe edition's casette mixtape also sounds hella dope. I'm really glad it's going to come with a download because that means there'll be some way to actually hear it. Radiohead demos+sketches from the OKC era should be great
