Sebastian?? Is that the one I think it is? Hopefully so. Does that mean this is the year that Ed Banger finally makes a comeback (what witg Justice just releasing a new song ans also being on the same bill) and annihilate what's left of bro-EDM?
Blank Face LP packs a fucking lot. I have not been able to give it enough listens yet, but this album has so much going on in it, and I know it's going to take some serious digging to pick up all those sounds, in the way that you had to really immerse yourself in TPAB to realize the full extent of that album. I love this, and I love that Q was able to pull that off.
In the meanwhile, Groovy Tony is slowly becoming one of my favorite songs of the year. It's that one song which gets better on every single listen. The addition of the Jadakiss verse and that masterful, "OH SHIT!" transition into Eddie Kane is just fucking flawless, it makes me want to punch shit. I SEE THE MONEY RIIIIIIIIIIGHT UHHHH!
The contrast between Mountain at My Gates and What Went Down which comes right before it is mind bending for me. I love both tracks, but I seriously want to hear what an album full of WWD-like songs would sound like. I think that would be incredible
A friend who saw Foals in Portugal last weekend said their coming on music was Viet Cong's "Death" this sounds fucking awesome, especially because that's probably the closest I'm going to get this year to seeing them live
Dude, excellent writing. I'm going to have to check out every single track, album and mixtape you just named.
Wanna do a top 10 Clams Casino list to get things going?
That was a great read. I love reading about all those little bits and points that come to mind after being at a great concert almost as much as I love having those.
I also find myself relating a lot to the experience of seeing concerts with your dad. My dad was a huge musical nerd who owned a record store in Tel Aviv back in the 80's, so there's a pretty huge vinyl collection at home, but he's really into 80's artists I was never into (among most classic "dadrock"). So although music is/was a huge part of both of our lives, we barely share favorite artists. Which is why every time a big, "classic" rock or pop act comes around, we go see it together (most of the times as a family, but sometimes just my dad, my brother and I). Two months ago, we went to see Elton John, because he is one of his favorite artists of all time. I insisted on buying tickets despite knowing "only the hits", but it was extremely enjoyable. In two weeks we'll be seeing Santana, which I never cared for, but my dad loves and already had tickets to 2 years ago before the show was cancelled a few weeks before. Wish we could see Paul together - he was here some 8 years ago, but I was abroad and couldn't attend :(
This is fantastic. It's nothing like the condensed pop-punk of their masterful classic debut, but it's still top notch songwriting, and it's very refreshing to hear a great, hooky punk song like this in 2016
The only CC song I really love is the one where Robert Smith is singing, so I can't really compare between this and the stuff they made before Alice Glass left. But I like this song a lot. Is it really different than before? Because if not, I might need to revisit their past discog (I was not a big fan of their attitude/image and admittedly it made it hard for me to listen to too much of their stuff)
I went to the beach today, and I found a Squirtle at the very end of the road leading to the pier. I thought that was very cool. I also spent maybe 10 minutes looking for a Pikachu around my street before realizing I'm an adult.
It's a beautiful album, and it still aounds fantastic 10 years later, even though the musical landscape has changed a lot in regard to "indie electronica". The cover art is a fucking classic too, possibly my favorite Donwood artwork.
Fucking fantastic film. That opening scene with Lust for Life is one of the greatest opening sequences of any film ever. I really can't hear that song without muttering in a fake Scottish accent "Choose Life. Choose a Job. Choose a Career..."
Not sure what your point is. This song and Francis' vocals on it sound so similar to Bon Iver (and Justin Vernon's features) that I found it basically impossible to distinguish between their vocals. It's also pretty easy to use the internet to find out more information about Francis and listen to some of his earlier stuff and find out that none of it sounds even remotely similar to this, to Bon Iver, or to James Blake for that matter. So yeah, he's welcome to make whatever kind of music he wants, but it's also fine for people to identify the similarities between his current music and more well-known musicians who have made that kind of music before. Not sure who's being a music snob but I'm glad you're enjoying taking the "moral" stance
Also, he already did this kind of crap before. Maybe not 2 per month ,but dude releases a shit ton of albums both solo and with various random groups. They're usually not that interesting though. It's like how Buckethead releases like an album or two per month for the past year or two: I appreciate him being able to do it, but there's no way in hell I'm going to listen to these
