That's a bummer. McCarthy was the other main songwriter in the band with Alex Kapranos and he's a sweet guitar player. It doesn't sound like this is necessarily a permanent split, so hopefully he'll be back on board later. The good part is that now we know they're working on a new album and tour! sweet!
The world definitely needs more dancing Justin Vernon
I've been to a Busy P set some 5 years ago and I remember it being really fun as well. If I'm not mistaken he debuted "Audio, Video, Disco" (the song) back then which was pretty exciting

Yeah, that was kinda anti climactic. But the song is still fire. I haven't listened to A,V,D since it came out because it just wasn't very good, but this is pretty promising. I could definitely use another Cross though
I fucking love everything that Brian Cook has been part of. This is fucking gold.
He is! Saw Toro y Moi last year and chatted with him a bit afterwards and he was so kind and sweet. Cool dude all around
Other than that, INSANELY excited for Blank Face LP! I don't know how I'm going to split my time between that, Wildflower and Freetown Sound for the next couple of weeks. Big fucking week!
I feel like not many people are going to talk about this album, so I feel obliged to write a bit about it: don't miss out on BBNG's IV, and definitely don't miss out on "Time Moves Slow", which is so far very high on my SOTY list. I've never really been a Future Islands fan. I like Samuel T. Herring's voice well enough, but something about their music never embraced me, even in a live setting. But on this track, his voice is something else. It's one of my favorite vocal deliveries in a very long time. This song brings me close to tears every time, the combination of those beautiful lyrics and that incredible rhythm section is so incredibly powerful and beautiful at the same time. Seriously, make sure you listen to this song. It's so fucking good. Then go see them live because it's so damn fun.
I like Welchez' Crocodiles output well enough but I mostly miss The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower. These guys were so fucking good
Sampha is fucking incredible y'all. His voice brings me to tears every single fucking time. what a soul
Weird autocorrect, I'm sure you meant to type "Lipslap"
Apparently most people here don't use Apple Music (or, y'know, torrent.)
It's in The avatar. Just try to imagine Scott Collins writing this and you'll see
Wish I could bloc these comments
I haven't even watched it yet but I'm refusing to believe there were t videos better than a new Romain Gavras one
I bet Billy Corgan is excited to learn there are people who listened to Monuments to an Elegy
yeah this is pretty bad. after this and their awful World Cup song from 2010 I think Rivers should be banned from writing anthem-ish songs forever
I'll probably write more about it next week in the comment section of the AOTW article (which will probably NOT be about this album, but a man can dream) - but "Time Moves Slow" is such a beautiful, powerful song. Don't miss out on this album
There has to be a vegan joke hiding in that opening sentence somewhere
I haven't updated my iTunes in 4 years, so you can guess what side I'm taking in this one
You're not alone, Plastic Beach is great
Which 90s rap stars are you talking about though? De La Soul? They became stars by doing goofy verses to begin with
The angle I'm waaaay more concerned of is that streaming as a whole is slowly becoming an exclusive medium for music, generally. I'm not talking about one service exclusivity, just the whole premise of an album not being available in any other form for a long time (like TLOP, which was unpurchasable for almost two months). There are still some parts of the world (mine included!) that don't have any access to either of those services at all right now because of all sorts of copyright issues and we are getting really fucked by all of this. (OK, we have TIDAL. but fuck that.)
I am one myself, and I don't think that has much to do with it. It's not as if Future is known for his incredibly smart lyrics or clever wordplay (at least not how I understand it!). He's mostly known for his very drugged, mumble-y delivery and for the overall sound he brings, which owes everything to Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and the rest of 'em. I definitely hate not being able to understand a word Future mumbles (and I consider my English to be more than "pretty good") , but for me at least the overall sound and delivery are much more important than the actual lyrics.
Dunno about that, their whole "image" was incredibly shitty and made it very hard to take the music seriously back then. And I don't recall really enjoying their stuff that much, which is definitely weird because that Dance-Punk/Post-Hardcore-ish sound was my favorite genre back then. Maybe I should try giving it another shot sometime
And that's a reaaaaally great song btw.
She makes a very good case for the revival of the Indie Rock Crush of the Year Gummy Award.
He can honestly do no wrong
You make it sound as if Drake wasn't already the world's most popular rapper last year. And the year before that. And in 2013, when this site ran a motherfuckin' DRAKING BAD article (#neverforget). Granted, I'm not in the US, but it feels to me that outside of it Future is really not as big as you imagine he is
Everything about this is great
Holy shit, that's a great line up. Run the Jewels, Descendents, TDEP, FLAG, Touche Amore and so many more on the same bill? Some hell us gonna be raised
Fingers crossed for Danny Brown dropping something too and denying all of us sleep for a whole month
Never mention Kanye and dick in the same sentence. It provokes almotasim
I find it even harder to believe that that's the same guy from Test Icicles. Seriously. Look at this. http://nme.assets.ipccdn.co.uk/images/2014TestIcicles_SamJones_010814.jpg
