I saw them at Primavera and they were surprisingly great. It was the post-Radiohead slot too, so I enjoyed it despite being in a pretty emotional state, which is a good sign. The strings definitely do wonders
Late to the party (which is maybe kinda the point of your post?), but I was lurking the site for years (honestly, a lot of years) before finally starting to comment here.
I was there when rj and Michael_ fought about covering Coachella (well, it was mostly Michael_ fighting everyone).
I was there when Michael_ fought on Twitter with Dylan Baldi and Ian Cohen.
I was there when Michael_ complained about whoever that was who wrote the Sunny Day Real Estate 20 year anniversary write-up had very few Twitter followers.
I was there when Michael_ wrote some nasty shit about Breihan because he wrote about smoking weed with Damian Abraham.
So... uhh.... yeah. This comment section used to be much more dramatic
All of these sound incredible. But the long roll-out is getting kinda excessive. I'm already hyped off the roof for this, I just want to wait until the whole thing's out
It's just that they grey lumped in with all these others mall-core bands that they are not remembered very kindly. But Billy Talent II was a great fucking album when I was 13 and it actually sounds pretty good today too
I finally listened to that PUP album this week and it's basically all I've listened to since. It's just so much fun!
Confession time: there are some parts on the album (especially on "Doubts") where the vocals remind me of fellow infamous Canadians Billy Talent. I'm less annoyed by this comparison than I ought to be
Did you get the white vinyl or the black one?
I was thinking of going to my local record store today to buy the vinyl, but then I realized they weren't participating anyway and they'll probably have enough copies for my to buy next week. Hopefully they got some of the white records, that would be cool
I wasn't really around when Odelay came out (ok, I was, but I was 3), so I can't compare how it sounded then and how it does now; but I can definitely say this album has more than stood the test of time. I've been a low-key Beck fan for years (meaning I was big on Loser and Sea Change but that's about it) but when I finally decided to dive into his massive and fantastic discography in the past couple of years, Odelay is the clear standout. It just has so much in it and about it and it sounds great on every repeat listen even now.
Also, I have no idea how there isn't one mention of The New Pollution in the whole write up. This song is the fucking best
They suck now in a way that kind of puts their past discography in a different light (unlike Weezer, who even when sucked hard not one speck of it got near their first two records), but when you look at it seriously they were a great band for more than a full decade
