TLOP isn't forgettable. also we have untitled unmastered which is a damn masterpiece, and judging by Groovy Tony that new ScHoolboy Q is going to be very hot
Pretty underwhelming! their last album was pretty bad too but at least it had a couple of good singles. this doesn't do anything for me. At least Flea still picks great bass tones
Arctic Monkeys definitely inspired a ton of (mostly British) bands, and their last album was their most popular (as in, mainstream popular. at least here). So, not far fetched.
And that's ok! Sometimes certain artists are just not for you. Sometimes it will change over time (I didn't like the fucking Pixies and the Strokes for years!! and I've seen them both live since I realized how dumb I was), and a lot of times it wouldn't. Forcing it isn't going to do you any good.
Besides, I don't get a ton of artists that around these areas are considered saints. What the fuck is up with FKA twigs? Do people really like this music?
Yeah, Tame Impala are definitely on that track, and rightfully so.
I can't say about the US, but I've noticed around here and in Europe that Alt-J are gaining a LOT of momentum. I don't like it, but they might be heading that way too
don't twist what I said so it fits your agenda of "arrogant Radiohead fans". I just find it very funny you give "untradional song structures" as a reason you dislike Radiohead, but that's exactly what Swans do, and do it greatly.
You obviously get to choose what you like and don't, and I would never say that you're wrong. But you don't have to make up reasons. And also, you know, bragging about not liking a band is just as bad as being arrogant about your fandom of them
This article is almost the same conversation I had with a friend earlier today. He was going on about how for the first time in his life he isn't excited for the idea of a new Radiohead album and that he thinks it might have had to do with how everyone keeps talking about them as "the best" and "them most important" and he is unable to treat them as his own anymore.
I feel very much the other way around - I'm happy to see that other people care about Radiohead that deeply. Going on that subreddit for the past couple days and refreshing those Radiohead websites like a maniac was a ton of fun for me. It got me really excited. Seeing how many people care for something that I feel very deeply connected to, and very important in my life, it's a great feeling. It also doesn't overtake whatever feelings I have when I listen to my favorite band, because those are mine to keep and experience.
For the past 9 years, there wasn't a band I wanted to see live more than Radiohead, and in exactly 30 days I am finally going to. I'm so glad to have them back, and I know it's going to be amazing.
It's a great song, and I'm sure it will sound a lot better in the context of an album. Radiohead are masters of the album sequencing, and I'm sure LP9 will be no different
I agree with the notion that it wasn't received badly, but it does seem that because the less-than-perfect reception, many listeners just left that album aside after their first couple of listens, and now when they think about it they remember it as mediocre for some reason. I think it's a real grower of an album, and understandably, people didn't like it as much, which is a shame
It's the first Drake album I actually tried to listen to front-to-back (I'm not a very big fan), so I guess that's some kind of praise from me (and like I said, I didn't think it was all bad! there are some solid deep-cuts! they're just very deep)
That's really cool man! I was at Foals' Royal Albert Hall show they made into a DVD. I didn't see the whole thing but I'm pretty sure they cut the part where I was supposed to appear :(
