I want to believe they put The Love Within as the first track so everyone is able to skip it and not hurt the flow of the album.
Only He Can Heal Me is pretty great and could work as a great introduction to the album (well, I've yet to listen to the full thing, but it seems like the whole album is in this vein according to the comments).
maybe I couldn’t be skinny and tall but I’ll settle for being the greatest artist of all time as a consolation— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016
Now this is a HUGE album for me, one of my all-time favorite albums for sure. I first became familiar with Arctic Monkeys after happening upon Brianstorm on MTV2 before they shut it down in Israel, just around the time where Favourite Worst Nightmare came out. Back then they didn't have a very vast discography so I immediately went back to this album, and I was hooked almost immediately. It such a spazzy, bouncy, joyful rock record, and it sounded amazing to the 14-year-old me who was mostly into metal and grunge back then. This was music that connected people - so many of my best friends got into Arctic Monkeys back at the time, and it felt like we were the cool up-to-date people, the ones who are into actual music that is happening right now.
Very much like in the US, in here the great "Arctic Monkeys awakening" only happened when AM came out and Do I Wanna Know? started appearing all over the radio. Back then in 2007 this album was kind-of-but-not-really a secret for teenagers here, and it felt extremely vital for me. It still does now, 9 years after I first heard it.
I only finally saw the Arctic Monkeys live for the first time in 2014, in Paris - when they were very deep into the AM tour, and deep into their new, slick-looking new phase. Most of my friends who finally got to see them in that tour felt disappointed, even betrayed - Alex wasn't a bratty teenager anymore, and they felt there was more emphasis on "coolness" then actually beating the shit out of these incredible songs - but I was just extremely happy to finally see and hear those songs come alive.
Thanks for the write up!
I like it. Not as much as I wanted too though. I'm not that big on Iggy Pop - but Homme + Helders is a killer combination and I'm sure they can crank out some tunes sexier then this. The fact that this exists is still very cool though
Kinda hoped they would be in Primavera because I'm not sure I could make another trip to Europe before then. But maybe I'll have to make an exception!
And I'm realllly excited for new music. Please don't be a Refused situation again, I totally know you guys are still capable of great music (and also Omar releases about 50 albuma every month so I hope he is venting his lesser music there)
Apparently the 'gum doesn't like El Guincho very much, but he dropped a new song this week! His last album was great and I'm very excited for this one too, you should check it out!
Can we talk a bit about Bowie's "Stay"?? I don't know where this song has been all my life. It's fucking amazing. It's almost exactly 40 years old but if it came out in 2015 it would probably be my SOTY. Hot damn that man was a genius. I was sad enough about his death before but after spending some time this week with his records I'm even sadder.
Also RIP to the great Alan Rickman. What a shitty week.

OK I wasn't sure on the first listen, but after two I can say that I really, REALLY like it! Lyrics are probably meh (didn't even try to listen to them), but the song itself is great, easily one of the best they've done in recent years! The guitar sound is so on point and this is actually catchy as fuck. Rivers' lyrics are a bit of a drag but the music is great to my ears. So this makes me incredibly excited (despite Thank God For Girls sucking).
The album cover is actually great (not kidding - it might be their best since Pinkerton IMO), the tracklist looks lame. So all things considered - I am in fact exctied for this - Please don't let me down guys. you pulled it off last time!
I think that's what he was trying to do! The songs are very similar - both lyrically and (sorta) musically. I think it's supposed to be a sequel to that song of some sort, showing how much has changed in those past 12 years
I appreciate you writing about GOOD Fridays, but I couldn't disagree more about some of the stuff you wrote there: in my personal opinion, not only were the songs Kanye released back then great when they came out, most of them still sound incredible now, and a few of them are some of my favorite ever Kanye tracks. Lord Lord Lord, Christian Dior Denim Flow and Chain Heavy are all heavy hitters, great-to-perfect tracks in his discography. I'm not even going to go into the songs that WERE released "officaly" later, either on MBDTF or WTT, because those are obviously perfect. Sure, the two remixes were pretty week (have to admit, I skipped those two when they came out, and only heared them last year for the first time), but most of these songs hold up extremely well.
I do agree with you about how exciting that whole ordeal was back then: This was actually my first introduction to Kanye! I heared the GOOD Friday tracks before I listened to any of his albums, and this made me realize what I have been missing this whole time. I remember being in high school, awaiting every Friday like crazy not just because it's finally weekend but because I knew Kanye was going to release another great track for me to dive into. So I'm obviously ready for this next round of hot tracks - this is going to be a very GOOD month.
Yeah, it's a very good album!
Gotta say, I was lucky to see them live about 2 years ago, and it was a fantastic show. I mean lucky literally - I wasn't planning on going but I got a free ticket through some raffle. There were less than 100 people in attendance for a show (in a venue of about 1000) - but those of us who were there had so much fun. Hope to catch them again soon.
