If I recall correctly, I once read somewhere that because it's much cheaper in Japan to buy imported album than a local one, bonus tracks are added as incentive for people to buy from the local distributors.
how has no one mentioned The Air Near My Fingers yet??
seriously. that whole Hypnotize-The Air Near My Fingers-Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine sequence is one of my favorites, ever.
I never comment on Stereogum except when I see a chance for upvotes. They also took my 10th place from me last minute and ran this feature. I’m disgusted with that. Happy birthday to Franz Ferdinand. All respect due. But the press is evil. I’m done commenting on posts in music sites. I just want to listen to music with people. That’s the only way my message gets across accurately
I never really liked Drake but this whole ordeal really makes me like him even less.
No one misunderstood your comments, they were just plain miserable. Man up, apologize and move on, asshole.
I've been trying to stream this for the whole past day and I can't even press the damn play button. I've tried it both here and on P4K, and also from my mobile and directly from the Soundcloud page.
I even tried to look for this on Youtube and I found one video but it just keeps buffering and I can't listen to the fucking song!
I think someone really doesn't want me listening to Thee Oh Sees no more.
(sorry, really had to blow off some steam, this is frustrating!)
Is this guy for real? They're paying tribute to a dead guy and Drake's pissed at losing a cover page?
To quote the guy himself, this is "Wack as Fuck".
I think the best thing about this album is how every song sounded familiar while blowing my mind out for how bold it was. I remember hearing Take Me Out for what perhaps was the first time and thinking "wow, I'm sure I've heard this before, but this sounds so new".
That being said, that song, and the whole album as a matter of fact, still sounds totally fresh 10 years later.
oh, and Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action is a hell of a fun to listen to.
About those TV performances, but isn't that normal for big artists in the States? QOTSA were on like 10 different shows before Like Clockwork's release, and so did JT...
You're right, but that was the blogs' fault, not Arcade Fire's, wasn't it? It felt like more of clickbait for the site (knowing a new AF album is a huge deal to the readers) than part of the actual campaign.
I'm sure Drake's management didn't ask Stereogum to do that dumb Draking Bad article, but someone here still thought it was a good idea, no?
I'm not American so perhaps I missed some of Reflektor's marketing campaign, but was it really that big? I mean all I know is that this stupid graffiti appeared, then Reflektor records started appearing and that TV special, and that's about it, if you don't include Youtube videos which aren't that much of a marketing effort, you know?
Also about that graffiti - I really hated how "somehow" every single music blog knew it had to do with Arcade Fire. it always seemed to me like utter bull - random graffiti appears in the US and suddenly Pitchfork et al. figure it has to do with Arcade Fire? hmm. tell me more.
Also where is that Diane Young video? how is it not the best video EVER???

There seems to be a typo in the Dylan video - it was directed by Vania Heymann and not Vanis. Really nice seeing this amazing Israeli filmmaker getting some recognition worldwide!
I really agree with you on that second part. From what I've listened to on this list, the only artists I can really see staying in the game in the upcoming years are Disclosure, Lorde and Chance. Run the Jewels is after all a collab album, much like Watch The Throne, so I can't see them count as an act, although they both will remain strong players in their respective careers. and as much as I enjoyed their album, I can't see Chvrces keeping the hype for the long haul.
Not at all! Champ is a fantastic record, every time I listen to it I'm amazed but how fun it is.
Really glad those guys are back, and this 9-minute track is such a blast. thanks for posting this!
and what a shame, I too forgot These New Puritans' Field of Reeds.
one of my favorite all time bands, amazing how they change each time and yet stay amazing.
FoR is such a bold move from these guys, I can't believe how much they changed from their beginning dance-punk days. wow.
Kind of bummed AM isn't on here. Thought that would be the year when the Monkeys finally hit the Americas. guess not.
Also, as a big James Blake fun, I really don't get Overgrown not being on this list. It's definitely in my top 5 this year, and I think it's a big step from his debut. possibly a step to the side as the debut was amazing in it's own right and they hardly compete in the same genre, but, y'know.
Other fantastic releases this year:
Foals - Holy Fire (I was at the Royal Albert Hall show. the new material is KILLER live)
Los Campesinos! - No Blues (IMO, their best since We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed)
The Dillinger Escape Plan - One of Us is The Killer
Everything Everything - Arc (I used to hate those guys, but this album SLAYS)
oh, and last one - I'm probably alone on this, but I thought AMOK was really good.
overall, great year and great list.
I am really enjoying this. sure, it's different than what I expected, but this album is so well made it's hard not to love it. will probably listen on repeat for the next week(s).
Also, are we sure Thomas Mars isn't on this? the chorus of Arabella sure sounds like him
