i consider ever hugely loved artist who dies young to be an incredible loss, because we'll never know what they would've gone on to create. tragically young losses like this one strike me deeply.
again, i was identifying them as such because they formed in melbourne. plenty of "new york" bands have members from other places but form here, and where they form is generally the way we discern a band's origin. i have plenty of love for NZ too though :)
i think Finn is a great songwriter too, but fairly peripheral to the point of this post so i didn't go into detail. Finn himself says he considers them an Australian band, cites Melbourne as their birthplace so that's why i identified them as such: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10407272
that's exactly what i told michael when he was reporting this re: abbot kinney + venice. i lived in malibu from 2006-2011 (it was for college, in my defense) and even back then venice was starting to become REALLY expensive. what it must cost now to get some space there blows my mind!
i consider mixing engineer to be part of recording but yes albini did engineer it & specifically vocals, which wasn't as much what i was referring to in this write up
i do think/hope it is going to be phenomenal album rj! perhaps it won't be, but the main point of this post was to help the fans who are superrrr eager about it not accidentally order very expensive vinyl, or decide against ordering vinyl they really want because it's showing up at the wrong price.
haha i was trying to do a reverse image search on that too but couldn't get it to show up just as an image -- i figured it was fake anyway and i'm glad to know i was right.
couldn't agree more! every single song on southeastern is absolutely incredible. was listening to "elephant" again last night marveling at his skill: "we burn these joints in effigy" DAMN
lauren is a role model to 13-15 kids. the problem isn't "youth" the problem is a culture that produces youth who think this behavior is okay or cool. that's what lauren is confronting here. the "oh they're just kids" or "oh boys will boys" adages are bullshit. culture must change.
yeah, i love the fact that she took such a powerful stance in her language too. i'm not condoning calling people "motherfuckers" all the time, but when you're spewing his kind of hateful, violent speech you forfeit the right to be addressed respectfully. the fact that she responded so aggressively was admirable to me, because a lot of women choose to ignore this stuff because it's so much easier to not get involved. someone actually emailed me to ask why i called lauren "graceful" when she's spitting that aggressive speech right back, and it's because a) she blacked out his name (which has been mentioned before as classy and i agree!) and b) she isn't sinking to his level at all, but she's maintaining an offensive shield of her own design. she didn't threaten him or anyone, simply said this is NOT okay with her and she won't back down. what a statement to make! to me, grace is strength under pressure and that's what she's displaying. it is inspiring to me.
