that tech9 song sounds like the same recycled trap-and-gunshot + "WOW we discovered dancehall in 2015" mix that everyone else is doing -- "heaven only knows" is fresh & joyous
fair enough, but i'd say "mumford folk" is a decidedly recognizable subgenre at this point. plus i don't really think they sound like the avett brothers at all but that's just opinion differences i guess
i'm aware there were a number of factors, i was merely citing one for a little context. the point of this post wasn't really to go into the trauma that wilson has been through, though yes, i'm aware it exists.
i am aware, which is why i intentionally kept the piece very light-hearted and gentle. but i thought the soundbite was a funny enough little quip to be noted.
that was a thought i had too, although why not say that? fans might have been more sympathetic. of course i understand the need for privacy too, though. hopefully that's not the reason.
it's a biopic -- good point! and yeah, the suing allegation is only coming from Singleton, no other source on that. i think his refusal to be associated with it is a bad sign regardless, and i'm thinking of the recent terrible biopics on whitney houston & aaliyah when i say that.
i'm simply saying that having yet /another/ famous, controversial parent is a whole added level of stress. no shots at courtney i rly like hole personally !
oh meant to hyperlink, i will add to the post but here: http://www.complex.com/music/2015/04/rihanna-just-brittany-plagiarism-allegations-bitch-better-have-my-money
this is my fav conspiracy theory so far :) i have to admit, i was hard-pressed to find snippets in the brief tidal video that reminded me of the haxan sounds... it seemed like a really quick jump in my personal opinion. but i don't listen to his music much.
yeah i was actually relieved when kendrick came out early bc i was worried about this getting lost in the shuffle! it needs to be heard by everyone i love it so much.
just features so far: http://www.stereogum.com/1787686/kendrick-lamars-to-pimp-a-butterfly-features-george-clinton-snoop-dogg-thundercat/news/
but you know we'll be watching & updating as soon as it's released!
actually, in the article i said their ignorance was the most troubling part. in the comments i added that i personally find their apathy after they DID find out to be unsettling.
The promoter and I both linked to his interviews about how fans have emailed him saying the Viet Cong tortured and killed the families of Vietnamese-Americans. It's here at 4:51 if you want to watch although it's also linked above! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXaiEcgRxTg. I think his blasé attitude toward those comments is pretty insane, yeah. If your band name brings up those kinds of memories for a group of people and the context is totally divorced from the band themselves, then yeah it's problematic to me. And Krasnov also goes through the context point-by-point, citing Oberlin's historical stance toward social justice issues, which seems to be the larger context for his own decision.
ding ding ding! go to 4:51 and see what he says about his Vietnamese fans emailing him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXaiEcgRxTg (this video is also linked in the promoter's reasoning above)
given the context of "feel" i think my interpretation actually makes more sense than a dictionary def. that's the great thing about music's subjectivity though!
