A FAKE PROBLEMS MENTION ON THE 'GUM YESSSSSSSSSSSS
I've wondered for YEARS why Fake Problems never got more attention in indie circles, such a fantastic band.
I agree, but to be fair, I read that he is going to be featured in the music video so hopefully that will increase his exposure a bit more. So at least there's that. Crazy that he's had two features on absolutely massive rap albums (he was on "I'm In It" from Yeezus) and been credited for neither.
I don't think you got downvoted for your differing opinion. You probably got downvoted because you said what Kendrick's rapping seemed aimless. And that's it. Nothing to back up your claims.
I think the idea that Kendrick isn't really rapping on this album is a bit ridiculous. He has some of the best flows I've heard from him on this thing.
You're right about this not being a great album Tom. I mean how could Kendrick live up to the lofty ambitions of 'gum favorites such as Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan?
Fuck outta here with that nonsense, who gives a shit about this being a good "rap" album? Its very clearly a GREAT album of MUSIC.
I don't like Die Antwoord at all but this really isn't that big of a deal and the idea that an Instagram post is going to make a group as weird and out there as Die Antwoord just disappear from pop culture is laughable. The fact that they are even a thing in American pop culture is already shocking.
I'm not villainizing her yet, hence the "If" at the beginning of my entire statement. Right now its really all just heresy.
Also no one has really mentioned Kanye being that great and really among Stereogum commenters I'd say opinion is pretty divided on him.
If that's actually true about Taylor Swift I think it genuinely reveals a lot about her character. When it happens to her she's just an innocent little girl being senselessly attacked by an angry, stupid, ignorant and most of all rude rapper. And it effected her so much that's she's still writing songs about it 5 years later.
But when its someone that she's not particularly concerned about, someone outside of her pop zeitgeist (can you imagine her telling Kanye she should have done it if he would have interrupted Sam Smith?), she's supportive of him and encourages it.
I'm not saying this makes Taylor Swift a bad person, but I'm not saying it doesn't.
What a fucking beast of a song. Kendrick's super intense rapping and powerful and angry lyrics, Assassin's perfect hook and then it blows it all up and Terrace Martin slides in with a beautiful interlude to finish it off. Brilliant.
Most boring Grammys in a long time. FourFive Seconds felt like a turn up song. Almost every performance was some painfully slow or somber song. There were some perfectly good performances but god was it boring.
Beck absolutely deserved album of the year and Kanye's comments about artistry are fucking ridiculous.
Too bad we get a proper AOTW write up for this and a shitty track by track overview for Black Messiah. Which I think we can all agree is a vastly superior album.
If we're talking best pop of the year, which I guess we KIND of are, my personal favorite pop song of the year has to be "Am I Wrong". I know the lyrics are dopey as hell and its an incessant cornball of a song but to me its really just the perfect pop song. Its got good vocals, a little bit of rap-singing and the production is definitely pop but its got a nice worldly feel to it.
What is it with Scandinavians and being ridiculously good at pop music?
