That's to the Stones' credit, but if The Beatles would have persisted as long as they did, surely The Beatles would have assimilated those things as well.
But how do you not class them as nu metal? They have almost every marker of a nu metal band, they just didn't suck like most of them, lol.
Nu metal is one of the things where when you get it right, it is actually devastatingly effective and quite good but it is so so easy to get it wrong and get something that is just absolutely garbage tier.
So much of nu-metal, at least the nu-metal that go wildly popular, was really poppy anyways, Rina seems to largely just be stripping away the hyper-masculine aspects of the vocals and lyrics.
I fucking hate this song and it has nothing to do with the song itself.
In elementary school, we had "assembly" where every day every kid from grades K through 5 would come into our big open auditorium/lunch room area to get told stuff. I honestly don't even remember what they would usually tell us. Anyways, they played this song EVERY.SINGLE.DAY for every year I was in that school, so this song is forever etched into my memory and I can't hear it and not think of the context of elementary school, lol
Will always have love for Ab-Soul because Control System is so good and I think he's really only behind Kendrick within TDE in terms of rapping ability but man those last two albums were not good. This is a nice return to form.
It is crazy how you read his comments and how much he oscillates between something that really rings true, like his discussion of his alcoholism, and something that is completely batshit.
Because that Super Bowl was in the middle of the Colin Kaepernick controversy and the NFL was probably terrified that a black guy might make some kind of statement during the halftime show in support of Kaep.
Yeah, if anything, Abel has actually moved closer to this sound over the years.
But Climax, though it is a GREAT song, is very rooted in its era. I don't think I could pick out a song that sounds more like 2012 than Climax.
I'm not sure why, maybe it was just a result of how I had downloaded the music, but I always pair this song up with Dragon Attack from the same album. Dragon Attack is an awesome song.
I'll ride for their first three albums any day. I thought Mechanical Bull was pretty solid as well, WALLS was really a regression from that one for me. Only by the Night and Come Around Sundown are not very good though, but still have a couple of decent songs apiece.
I love him and his music and I'm very happy that he is in a good place and is looking really healthy these days. Haven't listened to the leak of his album so very excited for Friday.
I'm not even sure if I can perfectly describe all the various elements that create this sound but it is extremely easy to date a pop song from the late 90s and early 2000s. It is almost instantly recognizable from the first sounds you hear in the song.
I'm surprised how little attention those two Foals albums got not just from the 'gum but in general. They weren't fantastic albums, though I think you could put something together between the best songs on each one to create a pretty damn good album.
Rush is my favorite band of all time and I was a fool and never got to see them live. I think I might have to go to this. Wolfmother and The Sword opening is super awesome too.
Only about half way through this thing (why is it soooo long?) but it is actually pretty good! Wayne seems utterly unconcerned with any of the current rap trends, which leads to some funny stuff. The Adam Levine track would have been massive back in like 2011 and the one with Big Sean sounds like 2015.
