I've been in rooms with both of those guys before. I am fairly confident I could disarm El by starting a discussion about the respective merits of different Steven Seagal movies. Mike would just pull out my spine like a Mortal Kombat fatality & laugh at me.
The Ferg album is good! I planned to write about it! But Ferg's label sent me a stream that expired after one listen. I had to keep re-requesting it. I can't really write about an album like that. But I'll have things to say about it once I get reliable access.
Been that way since I was a teenager. Watching them at Lolla 95 was a real "wow, these guys don't give a FUCK" eye-opener, and in a bad way. Everyone else on that stage that day was working hard -- even Beck, who hadn't come close to putting it all together yet. Cypress Hill, who I think came on right after Pavement, were *really* working hard. That disaffected sloppiness has always been a massive turn-off for me. I like when people try.
I know I am an island in this. That's fine. I won't try to convince anyone else. But that's where I'm at with them.
I don't usually put mixtapes on there, but I probably would've picked Kamaiyah for AOTW if I'd heard it before writing the AOTW piece. Stay tuned for more on that.
OF ME! STANDING BY A TREE! WITH SOME KHAKI DICKIES ON AND A WHITE TEE!
Felt personally insulted when I was writing this and I realized the "Conversation" video wasn't on YouTube.
ALTERNATE THEORY: Kanye and Taylor had the phone conversation. Kanye told Taylor about the "Famous" line and got completely pissed off about it but kept her gameface on. She realized that she had more to gain by it being out there. In this scenario, her response is still completely genuine, but she was strategic enough to let him hang himself.
I've been thinking about this a lot.
