Its such an interesting time to be alive during moments when artists in the public arena try and triage their reputations after there faults and actions are clearly exposed. Once truth and moral ethics have tapped you on the shoulder, your fate is unavoidable and clearly sealed no matter how hard you try to salvage your pathetic actions. Millers Crossing comes to my mind here and the sinister Eddie Dane... "Shut up! Or maybe you still got too many teeth."
There ya go...now thats contributing to a cause. Keep us posted on your clean up efforts.
Like her of not, she's forming a music path that many are starting to emulate. That merely proves that bad is a poor description. Rather, you should just, since the internet reeks of people who think their opinion matters, simply say you don't care for her.
Agreed...Its Snail Mail all week for me. Those three singles are embedded into my summer mix
An album that carries the #1 and 2 slots on Song of the week must, hast to be unprecedented, I mean, right? Smells like the first real AOTY contender, merely by default. And thats with an insanely great FJM album released in the same week...
Always loved 'Way Out.' Show Your Bones is just so much fun.
I hate new Kanye...Its awesome.
Is that the dude from Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping?
Thank you...I feel like a made a little bit of a difference now.
I don't get everyone thinking Kanyes album should be good because of the beats on pushas album... I mean, it's not like his prior albums didn't rake! This Kanye album is gonna be a hot mess.
As with most who float around Stereogum, is it just me or do you find yourself adding more songs than usual that have women?? Its insane how many songs end up making my playlists that are female fronted songs...I gotta stretch right now that has Lets eEat Gradma, Snail Mail, World Greatest dad, Samia, Beach House, Now, Now, and now these. I mean, I'm not complaining but damn its totally affecting my summer playlists!
Prolly threw this track down in an hour.
I'm sorry...I just love Drake. Boy is flat fun
Was a weird time and they were grouped up with bands that they necessarily shouldn't have been grouped with like Prefab Sprout, Love and Rockets, Aztec Camera, Roxy, Nick Hayward, Style Council etc, but Partridge was clearly on another level. Unfortunately, (and I think this was one of the criticisms of most 80's bands) they were defined by their singles in that MTV era, but as albums, Skylarking and Oranges and Lemons still hold up if you can look past Dear God and Mayor of Simpleton.
Album is way too short
They weren't in the mid 80's! Skylarking one of the top albums of that decade.
I highly recommend the Father John Misty radio station on Spotify. Closest thing to Gummers FJM likes...
Spotify's action are progress though, and these things take time. Their music is still embedded in Apple, Pandora, etc (who have yet to take the same action as Spotify) but theres still so much out there that could carry the same cause for change. Bands like Chris Brown, Eminem, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others are still all over playlists. Christ, even Jerry Lee Lewis could be included. Its sad that people still ignore the actions of artists like R Kelly. It may not begin with trying to keep people from listening, but to at least put a stop to promoting these dirtbags is a start.
I hope I never run into the dude that has bought this 1k box set. Sure he's a nice guy, but still, some priorities like rent may be a titch out of place. I guess the dead giveaway will be when I notice the "custom hand-made metal-cast band skull face rings” he's wearing.
Thats a very complicated situation going on there with Sinclair, and no real statements have been issued on anyones behalf other than Argo's. TBH, I think Grimes staying out of the fold is a smart play...for now. Sounds like a real bad break up so far although the accusations lead you to think its a bad scene, still, theres more that still needs to come to light. Her collaborating is a pretty good stance to start. Grimes laying back may be saying enough, who knows yet. That Poppy's a strange kitten.
Definitely make Teen Dream your first. Its cohesive and palatable. I'd say its the pizza of their discography as opposed to the others being more of a bouillabaisse. Man, guess I'm hungry. Adios
Got a little National Anthem vibe to it, as well, but definitely has Bowie all over it
Which, ironically, they are quite satisfying to listen to when jogging. Tough to think exercise would be a priority when listening to Beach House, but yet there's something quite transcendent about it.
Imagine walking around backstage and passing by her as she walks to the stage...my knees would buckle.
It was Apple Orchard for me...when I played it, I wanted it to go on for days.
Man, U2 at the Apollo would be cool to see...
The kicker for me was buying into their 'concept album' approach. Turners assuming the role of a character, albeit with some cringeworthy lyrics, but in the context of its storyline, it works. If you would have asked me if I'd be down with an album where the sound was Arctic Monkeys meet Pulp, I'd sign up, and this is as close as you'll get.
Think this my favorite song on the album which is actually beginning to play better after a few listens. It's like thick soup.
Jay-Z will have a hand in the song selections....seriously, wtf. This reeks.
Big buzz goin on with Star is Born...heard they played the trailer at one of those sumthin-cons and it had people literally crying. Highlight of the weekend to many
Now I'm beginning to understand why there haven't been any lead up singles....sounds like this things turning into a movie opening on a Friday but the reviews aren't out until Saturday.
This is not a Chris Brown problem. This is a record companies that promote him problem, a fan base that supports him problem and a media driven effort to exploit his 'bad boy' attitude problem. Chris Brown is a piece of shit. Everyone who creates the Chris Brown product are the ones who are ignorant. Cut the head of the snake for fucks sake.
And, poof, just like that, the music loving world just lost Grimes.
This reeks of an artist making a last ditch, desperate effort to regain some sorta relevance. This list of artists involved on this album with their hands on the defibrillator is impressive.
I do think there is a less than solid chance that whatever he does end up releasing will at the very least be prolific to some degree, but the boys clearly off the tracks. Woulda thought after his time off, he'd come back, I dunno, more grounded? Instead it seems like he's just lit his self destructive wick again.
I know this argument is so tiresome at this point, but this Kanye cat is legitimately blowing himself up right in front of the world to such a degree that listening to whatever he releases will have a negative impact on anyone's thoughts related to the music. On top of it, you'd have to think any lyrics will be just as bat shit crazy which you'd think would even further compound the public's effort to distance themselves from him. His rants are not interesting, provocative, substantial, smart, or even bad enough to warrant rubbernecking past his crash scene.
