Back in March, we awarded Album Of The Week to Chromatics’ Kill For Love, a long pulsating zone-out of a synthpop record, one that stretched Johnny Jewel’s filmic tendencies to their natural extreme and made a sort of audio movie out of them. Today, the Chromatics have made the record even more atmospheric, removing the drum sounds from 11 tracks and posting the result as a free download. Get it here.

Drumless… as if the comparisons weren’t apt enough.
The alternate version of “Into the Black” is worth the download.
That’s is pretty cool. I’m guessing that they created the drumless versions so that drummers could experiment with their own drumming (a lot like http://minusdrums.com, which has over 800 drumless tracks for drummers).
One of the neat things about this music though is that it has a lot of electronic drums in it. It will certainly be cool to apply a more acoustic drum sound which will completely change the sound. Additionally, if you put in some huge reverb on the kicks and snares it will only add more to the ambience.
