This morning we looked at an albums list from one of today’s most influential sites, so it’s fitting to take a pass through yesteryear’s authority after the sun has set completely. Rolling Stone’s decade-appraising lists were superficially comprehensive or schizophrenically scattered, depending on your angle. So how about their take on this year’s music? Well the Wenner group would like you to know that the trinity of holy Bs had a fantastic year: Bob’s Together Through Life clocks in at #18 on the albums list, leaving Bruce and Bono no choice but to fight it out for the top two slots; as for songs, Dylan gets shut out! But U2 and Springsteen most certainly did not. A more fitting teaser: Animal Collective is to Pitchfork as U2 is to Rolling Stone. And by that analogy, Joy Orbison is to P4K what Black Eyed Peas is to RS. You get the idea. As we’ve come to see, there’s a sizable amount of overlap on most outlets’ lists, so really it’s the outliers that define them. And there are outliers. So again, the question: something for everyone, or nothing to anyone? I know how Miley Cyrus fans would answer.

  2. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? I haven’t even heard that of one. #3, though. Bet it’s good.

  3. Fear Of Music  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

I don’t know… spining the Projectors as hippies at heart? Pretty lazy…There’s nuts in that ice cream…

  4. Can we all agree that U2 is terrible?

  5. collo  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

looks like Rolling Stone’s senior staffers had a heavy influence on this list….thats what you get with a magazine that’s been around for 42 years

  6. I love me some Bruce/U2, but Rolling Stone needs to get off their dicks. Those albums sucked.

  7. I honestly didn’t even expect Animal Collective, The xx, Girls or Grizzly Bear to place.

  8. Alan  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

I get this is indie sacrilege, but No Line is NOT a bad album. Don’t let Sexy Boots fool you.

That said, I don’t believe its the best album of the year…nor do I believe that Animal Collective is. I think both camps need to get off of their very high horses.

  9. Brother Sport  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

Well it’s like Morrisey said the other day…

  10. skeletor  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

AAAAH! Milkshake is one of the 50 best songs of the decade!

  11. No, we can’t. It wasn’t a bad album at all. It definitely wasn’t the best of the year, but not terrible. I think, if you look back at their 30 years and 14 albums of music, I would only say 2 (Pop and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb) were bad records. Its kind of a hipster thing to hate on U2 now, when the fact is their great musicians, a great band, who still makes relevant and impressive music. Not to mention, many of your token stereogum bands (which I like myself) are influenced by them.

  12. adam  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

    Ohh………no.

  13. green day. is in there. u2 is irrelevent get over it.

    • patrickkanegang  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

lol i thought the same thing….once i saw green day on the list, i just laughed. why do people like them enough to not want to kill them

  14. Great year for music; awful year for lists.

  15. tommy  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

their albums list is laughable. “no line” is still a pretty decent album, but i would have a tough time even putting it in my top 25 this year. although, RS did get their placement of “wolfgang amadeus phoenix” more right than pitchfork’s.

having said that, is it wrong to say that i find the songs list pretty decent? granted, springsteen should not be in there at #3, nor should miley cyrus necessarily be #4 (ahead of “1901″? really?), but in terms of a list that has mainstream/indie cred, this isnt really a bad songs list. i could argue that the placement is off, but they have a lot of the right tracks.

  16. Dan and Night? I want to hear that jam.

  17. my mind is blown by no line in the horizon being #1 on a list that contains the xx.

  18. madonna  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

what else could we expect from a magazine that gives yoko ono & sean lennon releases 4 stars. no credibility.

  19. miley cyrus on #4???

    holy shit!

  20. So it’s “The worst”? Worst what? U2 album? Album of the year? Worst “music”?

What would you say is the best U2 album…or song for that matter? Would you say their output this decade was a bit trite, or that their last decade’s work lost the plot? Where would you rank “Line”? Above or below “Boy” and/or “October”? Is it actually better or worse than “Atomic Bomb”, or below even “Pop”? Maybe you are one of the believers in their late 90’s output and would put Pop and “Zooropa” as some of the band’s greatest? Hell, maybe you just stick under the safety net of “The Joshua Tree” and “Acthung Baby” for all your “sometimes” needs.

    Thanks for the confirmation!

    • dave  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

The U2 haters who can’t acknowledge how great they were always crack me up. “U2 are irrevelant, etc.” And so are the Stones and Beatles… except for the fact that people still listen to their stuff all the time. U2 will be remembered in 30 years when many of the P4K bands that we all like will not.

So no. U2 aren’t irrelevant and you’re not very smart if you think they are.

      • Main Entry: rel?e?vance
        Pronunciation: \?re-l?-v?n(t)s\
        Function: noun
1 a : relation to the matter at hand b : practical and especially social applicability

how does U2 fit any of this criteria?? the album was unbearably disappointing on every level. this by default makes their choice irrelevant IN MY OPINION. and how can they account for the fact that U2 has little to no creative or artistic influence anymore, instead choosing to pump out redundant songs that had they been released say in ‘94 would have blown people away.

therefore U2 stands high and mighty as the irrelevant monsters they’ve been for 15 years. same with the Stones man come on, can anyone say they’ve written a great song in 15 years…..and i mean great…this is a year end list……did anyone say they can?t acknowledge how great U2 was? Joshua Tree was seriously important record to me growing up, one of the reasons I began playing music bud, so thanks for your input on my historical upbringing. and how does someone listening to said artists back catalogue regularly make them still relevant? so 20,483 people bought Dark Side of the Moon this year, suddenly they?re relevant once again (see definition above). shit I didn?t know the Beatles released a new record this year?

so please, since i’m so daft, explain to me U2’s relevance this past decade, besides crimes to humanity and the environment with their appalling song writing and atrocious stage shows not to mention the ensuing pollution problems for which Boner feigns such compassion.
get over it, a lot of people don?t like their new music

        /rant

        • You should have stopped at “IN MY OPINION”. It’s not relevant to you. As much as I would like to believe otherwise, music is very subjective. The “relevancy” of music is a completely useless term.

        • Nothing worse than a U2 hater troll masquerading as a former U2 fan,

Go fuck yourself and your mother you pathetic loooooooser ;)

      • You took the words right out of my mouth Dave, metaphorically speaking of course :)

Fuck these wet-behind-the-ears know-it-alls, in time they will grow up to understand that rock and roll is an art form that like all great art – transcends generations.

To declare that U2 are irrelevant in 2010 is folly, no less than to declare Rembrandt, Beethoven or indeed even The Beatles are irrelevant in 2010.

U2 are unique among all the historic mega-bands in that they are still producing cutting edge rock music long after their contemporaries gave up or lost the ability to write and instead chose to tour on the back of their ancient hits.

  21. johnmarshallbooty  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

    blueprint 3 bumps

  22. “Outlaw Pete” as the #3 song of 2009? I saw Bruce at a sold-out show in August, and the general reaction to the song went “Meh” for the first half, then “Jesus Christ get it the fuck over with!” once he dragged it out to about 7 minutes.

  23. rolling stone always gives 4 stars or higher to big pop, pop rock or urban pop (read: mainstream rap) albums that major labels are counting on to sell a lot of records. watch out for that in the future. it’s the case the majority of the time.

    • You can also say that Pitchfork gives higher ratings to bands that do promotions for their site. No difference than what Rolling Stone does.

      • ragamuffin  |   Posted on Dec 22nd, 2009

Not that I’ve noticed. For example, they gave that N.A.S.A. album ridiculously low rating. It’s not a very good album, but it’s certainly not bad.

  24. Green Day needs to stop dressing like they are 16 year old boys. Am I right?

    • megaindiedouche  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

They tried that one time in 2000. They sold like 500 records and everyone made fun of them. Then they put on the guyliner and sold ten million records. Everyone still makes fun of them, but at least they’re selling out 50 arenas a year again.

  25. WallabyJoe  |   Posted on Dec 18th, 2009

I’m just curious: am I the only one who reads this site who a) really likes U2 and b) thinks No Line is a pretty good album, all things considered?

    • I’ve loved U2 for years, and was generally pleased with No Line, which is second only to All That You Can’t Leave Behind since Achtung Baby. I think it deserved to be on this list, albeit closer to the 20s. It makes me laugh how many people on here hate on U2. Its a hipster thing to do now, and you will never find a decent musician who says U2 are shit and irrelevant. They all respect them, and most of them would admit to being influenced by them. People on this site who love indie music but hate on U2 are like people who love Oasis but say the Beatles were shit.

      • I don’t know if people are questioning their relivance. I really hope no one believes that U2 is a bad band, because they are truely one of the great bands of the last thirty years of music. They are just voicing that U2 isn’t making a ground-breaking/ or art albums like the Dirty Projectors/Fever Ray/ or even Phoenix are doing. I would be surprise if the majority of major U2 fans would believe that U2 made a better album this year than the bands I’ve mention above.

Anyways U2 will never be Joy Division and The Clash.

      • I like U2 also but the reason why people ( hipsters) hate them so much is because they are so commercialized. IPOD commercials, Rolling stone Magazines, even south park have talked about U2…. As soon as a band is commercialized that badly and so lamely, then listeners loose intrest. Plus, they will never make a song as good as anything on “Joshua Tree”

Like Bill Hicks the comedian said: Once you do a commercial your off the artistic roll call forever.

    • I like U2 and loved the new album Georgie Gregan.

  26. DeerHunters  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

FUCK ROLLING STONE!!! they need to get with the hipster movement or GET THE FUCK OUT!!!!

    • Adam  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

There’s a movement now? Does it have to do with music? As far as I can tell, if there is a “hipster movement” it’s really only about fashion: wearing “skinny” jeans and colorful handkerchiefs. Silly comment, DeerHunters. I’ll give you a pass though. You can’t be older than 17…

  27. Ha Outlaw Pete!

  28. Roko  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

U2’s ‘No Line On The Horizon’ album is a strong album everybody, the passion, the power, the soul, and the melody shine through from start to finish. #1 of 2009, you bet! I can be critica too of U2 at times, that’s the price of both being around a few decades and actual caring enough to try different things, but when it works, damn it, it’s greatness! Keep on rocking guys.

  29. dark element  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

you know last years best albums list from rolling stones included jonas brothers… so that should end their credibility right there but at least they put neko case and phoenix in front of xx instead of being pitchfork and giving xx 3rd place but thats about all they did right.

    green day … yuck… u2 bleh… mastadon… ewww… bruce… ugh

  30. I can’t believe Man on the Moon didn’t make top 25. Cudi speaks some of the truest shit I’ve ever heard in a while. I guess he did punch that guy in the face (too soon?).

  31. Josh  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

putting drake ahead of raekwon is like a sick joke.

the thought of having to listen to the top 5 makes me want to cut my ears off. sort of an insult to springsteen’s good stuff

i’m not even going to start on u2 or their rationale for bitte orca.

    • Nothing topped Rae’s album this year. That Kid Cudi album was nothing along with the Blueprint 3. Shows that Kanye is on the downslope of his career.

Living Colour – The Chair In The Doorway… Sorely overlooked by media, print, radio…

  33. Forreal?  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

  35. will v.  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

As much as i completely disagree with this list, I’m SO GLAD that animal collective is not at number one and ended up in a more deserving position for once.

  36. alex  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

    finally someone remembered franz ferdinand.

  37. Sorry, but I know people who are die-hard U2 fans and they thought this album sucked really bad.

We listened to it together and they kept pointing out “oh, they took that bits from that [other song of theirs]” Same goes with Bruce Springsteen.

The problem with most of these mainstream “journalists” is that they can’t get out of their comfort zone. In the end the same artists will be featured on every one’s list, leading to an undeserved No. 1. Same logic one should apply to things like The Grammys.

  38. I’ll say this: Levon Helm’s Electric Dirt is a terrific album.

    • Greg  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Yeah, pretty awesome that he made it. Almost makes this list worth it if he gets extra exposure. Reminds me how RS was one of extremely few publications to put David Byrne and Brian Eno in their 2008 list.

  39. dropkick  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Rolling Stone always tries to be everything to everyone because they are not a source for music or even politics but a “celebrity” gossip magazine that can’t stop jerking off to the nostalgia of the late 60s. they had a few decent picks on this list, but let’s face it, they haven’t been relevant or credible for a very long time.

  40. U2 #1 song and U2 #1 album??…give me a break you old people!

  41. Nice to see Sonic Youth in the top ten.

  42. O rly? Yah rly.  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Laughable. A fucking disgrace. Rolling Stone please quit writing about music. You would be perfectly advantageous for archival purposes.

  43. ThRobert  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

the musicianship aruguement is a weak one….so they play really well….who gives a fuck….. a great musician is not some elusive once every hundred year thing….. U2 sucks now….hip or not hip

  44. Mitch  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

I am a monumental U2 fan — grew up with the posters and memorbillia scattered through my room, been to something on the order of a dozen shows over multiple tours, will basically buy anything they’re sellin’ — and I thought “NLOTH” was aggressively mediocre. At best. It’s easily their most complacent album ever. For all of the thought and production that clearly went into the album, there’s a remarkable lack of substance.

I love U2 and Bruce. Maybe my two favorite artists ever. Both have released classic albums this decade, but their 2009 albums aren’t even close to being among the best of their respective careers or of the year in general.

  45. Max W  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

No album containing a song called “Sexy Boots” should be the album of the year.

  46. Slippy  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

I am a lifelong Springsteen fan. “Outlaw Pete” may be the worst song he’s ever recorded. How this rag stays in business is an absolute mystery.

  47. shiznicks74  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Well, then I guess it’s a good thing that there is no song called Sexy Boots on NLOTH.

  48. julian  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

That western skyline is #1 for me!! Also Hellhole…

  49. kij22  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

    “My favourite colour is blue!”
“Blue!, that’s a terrible colour! Yellow is where it’s at these days.”
“Yellow’s the worst…I used to like Yellow, but now it’s everywhere, ever since Pitchfork starting pushing in Yellow on their page, it’s lost credibility”
“You really need to look at Yellow really closely, look at it a few times, you’ll see what I mean”
“I actually like Yellow this year, but I prefer last years shade of Yellow. The real crime is that nobody likes Red. Red is an amazing colour this year”

  50. jenny  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Fanfarlo’s debut was the best album of the year!

  51. RJ Bachman  |   Posted on Dec 19th, 2009

Breaking news.. Radiohead took a shit and packaged it as a Box Set. Rolling Stone has immediately made it the best album of the year and all-time.

  52. Everyone keeps bringing up older bands “relevancy” or lack there of. Does anybody care if the songs actually sound good? I realize that Rolling Stone thinks that it needs to give older acts 5 stars simply because they’re still putting out records that aren’t literally of them shitting into a microphone, but if the songs sound good, I think that makes them legitimate. I didn’t care for U2 this year, to be completely honest, and feel that Rolling Stone gave them the top spot simply because they’re fucking U2. That doesn’t mean U2 aren’t capable of making “relevant” music, or even good music. It’s just a poor album (in my opinion). Nothing more.

  53. thank god someone recognizes mastodon for being awesome, and not following the hipster trend of servicing projectors and collective.

    • Palmer,Shindleria,Mr Songbird  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

I don’t know man…at SOME point I began to realise just how good Eno was…It’s a trend but it’s not fabricated…a “miracle” in itself…

  54. Neil  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

I agree. I thought I was the only one who disliked U2 & Bruce Springsteen’s albums. I gave them a shot but they just don’t stick. Miley Cyrus @ #4? Really?? And how in the world is Muse’s album – The Resistance not even mentioned?!?

  55. Paris Hilton  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

  56. madnis  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

#4 Party in the USA?! Seriously now… Something is very wrong with this magazine.

  57. Once again, NO recognition of Bird & the Bee, who ACTUALLY made the best album of 2009.

  58. jagajazzist  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

U2? Jesus, it’s the noughties already. Such bad taste!

  59. Anonymous  |   Posted on Dec 20th, 2009

When you say “influential,” do you mean that the things that are promoted by that publication are consumed in large quantities (like the XX?) and the things that are promoted by other publications are not (like U2)? Also, when you say that U2 and Springsteen are “irrelevant” are you referring to the fact that they aren’t the 2 top-grossing concert tours of the decade? Just making sure.

  60. No love for Humbug?

  61. Hello everyone, i’m writing from the hospital….let me explain.

After seeing that U2 got song of the year and album of the year, i found my self jumping out the nearest window…. Lets remember that U2 has not made a decent album since the interenet exsisted, picking Greenday in the top 5 makes me want to stick my head in a bear trap….for real.

Rolling stone needs to roll of this planet, today…last time i looked at one of the magazines they had lady gaga. Thats not fucking music is people on laptops making random already organized beats for some numnut singer that sings about poker. rolling stone has not been cool since fucking Nirvana

holy shit i just noticed Miley Cyrus has #4 song of 2009…………I rest my case, excuse me while i go beat myself with a tac-hammer

  63. Ruben  |   Posted on Dec 21st, 2009

Even though I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile now, this list officially made me cancel my subscription to their crappy magazine.
    Reasons #332-400 =
04 Miley Cyrus – “Party In The USA”
03 Bruce Springsteen – “Outlaw Pete”
02 Jay-Z (Feat. Alicia Keys – “Empire State Of Mind”
    01 U2 – “Moment Of Surrender”

    and

    05 Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown
    04 Jay-Z – The Blueprint 3
02 Bruce Springsteen – Working On A Dream
01 U2 – No Line ON The Horizon

What a joke! I’m not even a hipster or a snob and I find it appalling.

  64. Will someone please PLEASE explain why the hell everyone is refering everything to Hipster now? I have heard that term everywhere and it makes no sense what so ever. hahahahaha the urban dictonary refers to it as:

” Someone who listens to band that no one has ever heard of”

    Nevermind then…..haha

  65. Stephan  |   Posted on Dec 21st, 2009

How on Earth is Muse’s “The Resistance” not on this list? What an embarassing omission on the part of Rolling Stone…wow.

  66. Stephan  |   Posted on Dec 21st, 2009

How on Earth is Muse’s “The Resistance” not on this list? What an embarassing omission on the part of Rolling Stone…wow.

  67. mmmmm  |   Posted on Dec 21st, 2009

Dawes at #23 is an incredible band and actually worth listening to…

  68. If we are talking about The xx and La Roux, why not mention Florence + The Machine? Cosmic Love was one of my favorites this year. What about Speech Debelle? I think only people on the Mercury Prize committee liked her.

Why don’t we all come together and throw our own list of Top 25/50/100/500 best tracks and albums in one and see what we will get? I think that will settle the argument. I’m not buying the Gummy Awards. I think many of the AC fans just listened to a few new albums this year and didn’t experience what else is out there.

  69. AHAB  |   Posted on Dec 22nd, 2009

Does u2 deserve 2 be #1 in our hearts at least?& Does the AC make prettier records than the grizzly bears?

    • Horchata/Graze/Dr Dark  |   Posted on Dec 22nd, 2009

What I like the about the Griz is what I like about Fleetwood Macs Sara…One of the things to like about AnCo is L.Buckingham at his most crazy and inventive…
Micachu might just be secretly “mall pop” in actuality…but that’s easily the biggest injustice I see on all these lists…

  70. sainthood

Yuck. This is exactly why I hate rolling stone.

  72. pandaman  |   Posted on Dec 22nd, 2009

Regardless of whether or not you agree or disagree with the list, the number of people who have actually listened to “Merriweather Post Pavilion” AND “No Line On The Horizon” all the way through versus number of people posting here about it has got to be hilarious.

  73. I’m pretty sure RS, U2 and Bruce just sit in a room together and smell each others farts all day long….

    worst list ever.

  74. julobulo  |   Posted on Dec 22nd, 2009

Can the haters, and the lovers make a better list then =)
    Always up for some music that moved people, good or not, we can all be judge of it;

    no?

  75. Declan   |   Posted on Dec 23rd, 2009

Rolling Stone, How the fuck is party in the USA not on the worst song list?

  76. The Girls album is beyond overrated and ridiculous. It’s Dolores Park in audio format. It’s PBR and being just too cool for anything. LAME.

If I really thought these were the best albums of the year, I would keep it to myself, especially with such high-ranking adult contemporary masters like U2, Wilco and Boss.

  78. “Rolling Stone” has jumped the Shark.

I agree with many here who were disappointed with U2’s NLOTH. I found a few gems scattered about but overall was quite underwhelmed. I prefer “Boy” and “October” to it. As for the list,….Miley Cyrus?? And where are The Sounds???

I didn’t even know U2 put out an album this year, why isn’t Coldplay on this list?

  81. mike hawke  |   Posted on Dec 25th, 2009

alright, what the fuck is up with green day jay-z and u2 being in the top five u2s album was soooo bad as was green days and jay z has just been talking about how great he is since his third album and by the way, fuck grizzly bear, the-dream, and anyone who puts fucking drake above ANYBODY in the wu tang clan, at least sonic youth is top ten though i guess, but 1 right does not make up for a thousand wrongs

I have always thought U2 is ridiculously overrated by popular magazines, including Rolling Stone. They put out 2 maybe 3 great albums, and haven’t put out anything good in the past 15 years but the media still cant seem to get off their dick. Maybe it’s because Bono is such a likable person and humanitarian, and the media feeds off “feel good” personalities, even if the main reason for this has absolutely nothing to do with the reason they are famous (music).
In my own opinion, U2 no longer makes good albums, let alone THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Rolling Stone I’m sorry but bring some creditability back to the magazine that once informed millions about decent popular mainstream bands that make GOOD music. Not formula rockers Green Day, the marketing princess Miley Cyrus, or *gasp* the 2009 version of U2.

Also, how is not liking U2 being called a hipster? Are you also a hipster if you dont appreciate any band that WAS good and is still trying extremely hard, even though their ending product is nowhere near the level of the past? I just call that someone with actual educated music tastes. Stop sitting their on your high fucking horse trying to insult others with stupid names and go out and find good music. Trust me, there are many albums that came out this year that are MUCH MUCH better then No Line. You just have to look instead of getting fed what RS tells you.

Take off the shades Bono and RS and get back to what is real in music.

no mention anywhere of julian casablancas new one…..purely over-esteemed pop bands…for christ sakes even miley got a song in edge wise, WTF rolling stones!

  84. Don'tHaveOne  |   Posted on Dec 28th, 2009

Hahaha. After including them specifically under their “least-enduring genres” and giving Animal Collective some quite bad reviews, they still put their album in the top 15.
Choose an opinion and stick with it RS!

I have only heard one or two songs from the U2 album, and I’m still pretty certain that it’s a hideous album.

Pearl Jam – The Fixer should be #1.

All those slating U2, try actually listening to Moment of Surrender. It’s an amazing, angusihed soulful masterpiece. If No Line on the Horizon was written by a relatively unknown band, many of you would look upon it more favourably. Which is just dumb.

How come you guys didn’t put down Them Crooked Vultures. Easily the best rock album that has come out in a long time.

Yeah I don’t know, or like some of this stuff, but wouldn’t buy u2, or Pearl Jam, but they make sense more than ANimal Collective?(over rated for me uh beach boys is all I think of)…
Of all the big BANDS with a few under the belt Green Day was the only one that sparkled with energy. It’s kind of like been there done that, and I don’t want to go back, like SOnic Youth not sounding like sonic youth… it’s better, but sometimes a best of band is not better than the rest.

really really disliked Black Eyed peas song, Worst songs of the year for me is Black Eyes Peas…

AND where is Weezer on the song list at least,,, Weezer is still a fine act. Dinosaur JR too… wow it was way better than sonci youth!!!!

Anyways here my most listen to cd/song or impressed cd of the year…

Agreed. Unforgettable Fire is one of the best albums ever made. As is Joshua Tree. Just as REM is really about South Central Rains and not Shiny Happy People, U2 is not Zooropa. To write off a band is easy. To comprehend a band requires maturity.

  92. My god the people complaining here is ridiculous. I bet most of you haven’t even listened to most of these albums you are hating on. Just cause its not Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective in the top spots doesn’t make the list bad.
