Soul singer Bettye LaVette will release a new album of covers this fall featuring renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, K.D. Lang and more. Recently, Bettye LaVette’s take on the Black Keys’ “I’m Not The One” popped up on the web. For those familiar with Bettye — or at least the memorable 2010 New Yorker profile of the singer — you’ll recognize her personality in her official comment on the cover. Behold:
“I find it interesting and thoroughly entertaining to add age and experience to young writers’ songs and inhabit them myself,” says LaVette. “I’m not sure what he was talking about, but I’m saying don’t fuck with me.”
