Shearwater stopped by the Echo in Los Angeles in support of their highly touted Sub Pop release Animal Joy. While you may have seen their videos “Immaculate” and “You As You Were,” seeing them live will leave you breathless as Jonathan Meiburg and his bandmates take their songs to new heights. Shearwater closed out their cathartic set with a cover of R.E.M. “These Days.” Melbourne’s Husky and Gold Leaves kicked off the evening. Check out the photos above.

  1. Saw them open for St. Vincent in Pittsburgh. Meiberg can belt it. Like, really, REALLY belt it. Worth seeing them just for that.

  2. I was there! It was a show I’d been looking forward to for quite a while (Animal Joy is in my top 5 albums of the year so far), and it did not disappoint. While the level of musicianship was high in general, I agree with the comment above … Mr. Meiburg’s voice is ridiculously amazing.
