Fresh off a hailed Brooklyn-debut-as-Brooklyn-residents, San Fran transplants the morning benders release this cameo-packed live take on Big Echo’s opening track “Excuses,” filmed by the Yours Truly crew back in the band’s Bay Area home. Some brief words before and after set it up as benders’ mainmind Chris Chu’s homage to Phil Spector, and here the Wall Of Sound is built on a Wall Of SF Friends, including Chris from Girls, Vanderslice, ex-Rogue Wave/present Port O’Brien bro Gram LeBron, the Mumlers, and a bunch of strings, guys, and girls picking apart and chorally uplifting the harmonies to the standout throwback track. Worth a watch.

pretty fucking cool…..girls lead singer is so schmarmy though..ick
best live video i’ve seen in…. well…ever…. it’s the best live video i’ve ever seen
This is one of the best live videos I have ever seen in my entire life. The song is beautiful and it’s filmed exceptionally well. Phil Spector would be rolling in his cell.
saw this on GvB last night, glad you guys picked up on it! truly one of the most rewarding videos i have seen. thanks guys.
Yourstru.ly’s on a roll. Great stuff.
this was my introduction to their work, but i really enjoy their other stuff too
This is beautiful.
does anyone have the recorded version? this song is amazing.
strings from etta james’ “at last” anyone? anyone??
My thoughts exactly
This is great. I saw them open for Grizzly Bear and they seemed like a pretty standard indie band, but this clip shows major potential for them.
With “Promises” and “Excuses”, this album seems amazing. Wish all live recordings were this good.
LOVE IT
stereogum, please find a way to load this as an MP3, can’t stop listening to it. I have litterally watched this video 30 times.
yes! please please upload an mp3!
people who say this is the best live video ever are retardo. also morning benders are better than grizzly bear. grizzly bear is a joke, “standard indie band?” hahaaaa. however this song shows potential but needs a bridge and a better arrangement.. im sure it’ll come
MP3 PLEASE!!!!
2010 Marketing Concept: Listen to your manager and move to Brooklyn. Then visit your old stomping grounds where no one cared (call local retail for sales figures on 3+ records) in the first place and track mediocre wank chamber pop with local hipster musician friends and get the latest blessed video crew to tape direct to web porn. And you too can be webfamous for 30 days. This plan must have been discussed over lattes in Park Slope. Mission accomplished -Stereogum hook , line and sinker. Clear the scheduale for meetings with Columbia.
your fly’s down, bro
got even the haters to watch it!
Yo 1986 jackass – they already got bankrolled – BMG > Matador > True Panther. And those first 3 records were perfect for the slam dunk. Now that’s strategy, homie. Check mate.
WOW True Panther is bankrolled by BMG? That’s amazing and news to me!! I always wondered how I was ever going to raise the millions of dollars it takes to put out 500 copies of a single by a band I love from my favorite city , but yeah luckily a massive corporation stepped in and saved the day.
love the breakdown! reminds me of golden times
It’s a nice effort. Perhaps the kids are on to something. Nevermind all the riff raff about this or that. It’s the music Business.
Great stuff as always. Really catchy tune, can’t wait for more videos.
these guys are the best. this song brought a tear to my eye
morning benders are burgeoning into superstars theyre my favorite band im obsessed!!!!
Album leaked today! the production is ace, as is to be expected i guess! I’ll definitely be purchasing this one. As for the video… just amazing, hoping they visit the UK some point soon.
