My Bloody Valentine New Album 2013

The follow-up to My Bloody Valentine’s classic Loveless topped our list of 2013′s Most Anticipated Albums — although, if we’re being honest, it would have topped our list of the most anticipated albums in any given year over the past two decades. Yet more and more, it looks like we’re going to get the damn thing sooner than later (to the extent the release of an album 21 years in the making can be called “sooner”). Mastering of MBV LP3 was completed in late 2012, and according to NME, Kevin Shields announced tonight — at a show at Brixton’s Electric — that the new album “might be out in two or three days.” We’ve heard unrealistic timeframes from Shields in the recent past, but nothing so immediate, so … holy shit?

To further whet our already voracious and unrealistic appetities, the band performed a new song at tonight’s show: “Rough Song”; we’ve got footage here. Of course it’s great. Watch, listen.

I’ll believe it when I hear it this week. And even when/if I do hear it this week, I still probably won’t believe it.

But for now, let me just say:

  3. If this is true, I may find myself “coming down with the flu” here in the next few days and have to skip a day of work. Ya know, for health reasons.

  4. also, this one’s much better quality

  5. I never doubted it would happen. Best news ever…

  6. My Bloody Valentine is like a comet that passes through the night sky every so, brightening the world.

  7. An MBV album released during my lifetime?

  8. this song sounds pretty great. Can something happen with this or am going to have to go through the rest of my life with Kevin Shields teasing us about a new album every few years and never coming out with it?

    • His teases have always been longthier generalizations in terms of years, but never days. If nothing happens in two or three days, he’s really going to have the label of the music world’s biggest wolf crier on him and I can’t imagine anybody will ever believe another thing he says from there on out.

      • Longthier = Word I just made up used to describe something that’s lengthier than the wait of a new MBV album

  9. Should just waited two weeks and dropped it on Valentine’s Day. I mean, what’s two weeks compared to 21 years?

Plus I’d have a date for Valentine’s Day! I’d take the downloaded version out to a nice restaurant, run the headphone cord from across the table. Laugh, cry and smile my way through dinner. Then take the album home, get under the covers and make sweet passionate love to it.

Well… I guess if it comes out in two days this could still happen. Wow. Never thought I’d ever be pumped for Valentine’s Day…

    • let’s do this together

    • If you think you’re the only one who plans on taking this album out for a nice night of some affection and loving, you’re in for some extreme disappointment, because I’m pretty sure when you get to the door of this pretty little lady, you’re going to open it and find yourself staring at her stark naked and ready for one of the hugest Stereogum bukkake sessions.

      • ew. worst metaphor ever. you still rock michael.

        • When I look back at my recent posts, sexual innuendos seem to be a prevalent yet troubling theme that probably has something to do with an ongoing fractured love life, so thank you for calling me out on this and I will attempt to keep the contents of my comments wrapped in a gold wrapper from here on out.

          • but i read your blog and your reviews and writing are great, so the ends justify the means :) My eyes just need to go through a carwash after that metaphor however.

        • grossness aside, i find it an apt metaphor.

so, see you guys in a few days at the gang bang?

    • just make sure MBV doesn’t catch wind of your feelings toward paul banks’ dick.

  10. seems like its finally happening ;) they will pull a massive portishead style return to glory. 3rd was worth the wait in spades and no doubt even though the waiting was immensely difficult, will be gloriously worth it.

  11. it’s a nice song though as well to boot. God only knows how wonderfully and deliriously trippy it will sound in the studio :)

  12. THANK YOU SHOEGAZE GOD!!

Come on, Web Sheriff; what do you think I’m going to do? Listen to this song, figure out how to perform it, record my own version and sell it before the album gets released?
