Regina Spektor - "No Surprises"

On March 23rd, NYC’s Irving Plaza hosted a Doctors Without Borders benefit concert to raise funds for victims of the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. Regina played there, and today doubles down on her relief efforts by releasing this cover of Radiohead’s OK Computer wishful thinker “No Surprises,” blogging “i LOVE them, and thank them for donating their proceeds too!!! they are the best!” So yes, this is a 100% charitable contribution to the canon of Radiohead covers we helped flesh out with our OKX compilation. Regina goes solo, arranging Thom’s utopian daydream for piano and voice, melting it to its core  and keeping it fairly affect free, to great effect. Have a listen, then please buy:

Buy at iTunes. As mentioned, 100% of the proceeds will benefit Doctors Without Borders, who will in turn distribute the funds to various relief efforts for earthquake victims in Haiti and Chile. It should be noted: This weekend you can come dance with Björk, Dave Longsreth, Tyondai Braxton, and Mr. Brandon Stosuy for $15, with those funds benefitting similarly oriented relief efforts. Do it.

I’ll leave you with another beautiful take on “No Surprises,” this one from OKX (which you can still download as a zip file) by the lovely Marissa Nadler:

So this song is for charity right?

Why the hell can’t I buy it from the UK? I go to the US iTunes store and it won’t allow me to purchase.

Great, going Apple. So the quake victims don’t need my money?

  6. At this point, who hasn’t covered Radiohead?
