Our band-billing sensibilities have been assaulted a couple of times over the past few months, with Stereogum faves Bloc Party and Amanda Palmer taking slots opening for the Urie crew. For the Dresden/Disco tour, reports say each group’s fans didn’t play nice with the other’s, but the bands got along just peachy. Here’s a silent-film-like video for Dolls’ “Backstabber,” one of our favorites from Yes, Virginia. It’s a play on the vicious, face-painted rivalry between the bands, and is best stopped at the credits (consider yourself warned). (via Rock Daily)

Amanda discusses the perils of the tour on her Myspace blog, but is at her best in describing the young, Panic! fans:

this crowd doesn’t yet “get” the irony thing. was it their age or their parents? brian and i would discuss this. will they learn to appreciate irony, at some later date? the answer at the end of the night was a pretty firm “no fucking way”. a lot of these kids were attending a concert for the first time. for many it was the second. their first concert? the polls revealed: britney spears. i’m dead serious. so we covered “hit me baby” nightly as well, with brendon from panic on vocal. irony lost, but what good fun!! if the tour had continued, we were going to work on “living on a prayer”.

Oh, but irony ain’t lost on us! Black Sabbath was fine last time, but now we demand Bon Jovi covers.

  1. I think Dresden Dolls and Panic at the Disco are on a similar level of shitty.

  2. I don’t even want to get what this is.

I’m pretty sure Amanda doesn’t know what irony means, either.

  5. Hey, this made me laugh, and I don’t think the song is half bad.

  6. Hahaha best video ever, by far. And man oh man is Brendon adorable (go ahead, shoot me). More reason for you guys to want to kill me: I actually like that song in the credits.

Talking about irony in a self-important manner, and berating people who don’t “get” it (or better yet, those who choose NOT to get it or pratice it), is pretty much the quickest way for me to hate you.

Fuck irony, and fuck the Dresden Dolls.
