Last week we posted Arcade Fire’s 2010 tour dates, but as these things tend to go, Friday’s private show at the Notman House in Montreal wasn’t on the list. It was the band’s first show in the city in three years and, according to various reports, they did 12 songs — including eight new ones — for 75 people. We have the setlist and Suburbs-related clips.
(Via CoS)
The set:
“The Suburbs”
“Ready To Start”
“Month Of May”
“Tunnels”
“City With No Children”
“Rococo”
“Keep The Car”
“Empty Room”
“Modern Man”
“Powerout”
“Rebellion”
“Suburban War”
“Wake Up”
Said The Gramophone has a detailed live review. We’ll update with more vids as they come.

Sounds a lot like most everything they do, still, something to look forward to.
Can someone explain the recycled song titles?
its the set list
Sound good to me.
I remember when a post about new arcade fire songs would get close to 100 comments. Now….**crickets**
well no posts matches the volume of comments that sgum used to get.
considering this clunky log in system (i honestly prefer anonymous nastiness, rather than seeing SO many posts with 0 comments) and the clunky redesign of the site a while back (is it just me, or does it seem like the site gets updated with content once every 4 hours? i know it isn’t actually, my eyes just don’t wander to the other sections as easily)., it’s no wonder.
still though, this is low for arcade fire. even with sgum’s crappy new system, this thing should have gotten at least 20 comments for an AF post.
The new format doesn’t really allow readers to respond/comment as easily as they used to…
It’s really unfortunate. And Buzzmedia and Stereogum’s fault for thinking this layout is better looking. When really, it takes a way for the blog format that made it successful.
It’s weird, it makes me not want to visit this site much. I don’t mind the aesthetics of it, but the whole feeling of the site is gone. Less comments=more boring.
well, they have to change it somehow. enough posts with 0 comments will show them. i forgot whoever did the tweet like “new format up soon…take that anonymous commenters!” but i’m sure they’re not laughing anymore when their site has a shred of the effectiveness it used to.
You say the 0 comment stories will teach them. But how? What can they do to gain commenters w/o accepting loads of spam?
manually delete spam.
but MAYBZ the Stereogummers reckon they’re above managing a website properly. And would rather make a pictorial version of Pitchfork (read: ‘boring trend watch’)
I think Arcade Fire would be awesome in this setting. Seeing them in a crowd with tens of thousands though—I think I could pass.
I’m really concerned as to why there’s no orchestral arrangements in these songs, both here and in the videos that Pitchfork posted. I mean, it sounds pretty good, but they don’t really feel like Arcade Fire anymore. I know that bands change and grow and everything, but I always felt like one of the biggest appeals (if not THE biggest) of Arcade Fire was the grandeur of their arrangements…
Yeah, I have to agree. I can’t speak for others but the strings first drew to Arcade Fire. This new album sounds completely free of them though. I was concerned after first hearing “Month of May” and “The Suburbs”; it doesn’t sound like The Arcade Fire I know and love. I feel like as they gain popularity, like they have recently since the frequent Arcade Fire tracked commercials, they will become more mainstream and lose their defining element. I hope I’m reading too far into this, and hopefully it’ll grow on me. I already got my tickets for this summer.
More mainstream? I for one would not mind hearing them shed some of the pomposity, seems like the next step after Neon Bible’s mixed bag of melodrama (though I’d approach titles like ‘The Suburbs’, ‘Suburban War’ and ‘Modern Man’ with trepidation).
Like, bros need to ride the chillwave and light one up, na mean.
“Month of May” made me nervous about the strings to. But “The Suburbs” definitely gets the orchestra in there towards the end, and these other songs seem ready-made for strings…hopefully the studio versions will deliver.
I think I’d rather see a blog post with 12 comments than one with 98 comments where half of them are just lame-ass spammers trying to get attention by dissing and/or insulting anyone in their path. I agree with the layout argument though, still can’t get used to it.
HOW COME STEREOGUM IS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE.
I really want them to give us one of the 2010′s top albums. The two new songs I’ve been living with are nice but lack the band’s usual character. Interesting to hear that their new songs don’t sound like the Arcade Fire imitators. That’s fine as long as the band breaks new ground on the album we’ll be hearing soon. Fingers crossed.
