Laura Veirs might not be the first person to come to mind when thinking about Led Zeppelin covers, but if you remember that Quit Your Day Job interview we did a few years ago, she certainly has chops. Her take on “The Ocean” comes from The Land of Ice And Snow: The Songs of Led Zeppelin, a double CD compilation that features dozens of other unlikely Robert Plant impersonations and the above Carson Ellis Houses Of The Holy-style cover art.

That song was fucking awful. I registered to just to leave this comment. Please never let anyone desecrate good music like this again. Please.
I… I thought it was pretty cool. I’m not sure why people have such a nasty outlook on covers. I think they’re fun, and usually lighthearted. And the artist probably loves the whoever they’re covering. It’s not like they’re attempting to take a dump on Zeppelin through cover sabotage. it’s just fun.
I like Laura Veirs, but I’m not feeling this. Ruining one of the most epic rock guitar riffs of all time.
…. I like it. hehe
this sounds killer. loosen up hipsters.
Nice take on the song. I’ve heard a handful of a few other tracks, and I’ll bite.
This would be a good recording if you were choosing songs for a kids’ compilation…AND if you had never heard the original.
Zeppelin’s version is The Ocean, and this is sort of The Puddle.
p.s. I do sort of like the glockenspiel (think that is what I am hearing)
Excellent!
