Gorillaz visited BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge to do acoustic versions of “On Melancholy Hill,” and “Doncamatic,” and a cover of The xx’s “Crystalised.” “Doncamatic” guest vocalist Daley was also in the studio, and he backs up Damon Albarn for their quiet, sparkling version of “Crystalised.” (Note that Daley has to wear his studio headphones upside down to protect his haircut.) Albarn also talked to host Jo Whiley about some of his least favorite things (the music industry, X Factor, and Simon Cowell). Watch the live in-the-studio performances below:

The XX cover is so good. It’s not that they changed the chilly mood of the original, or added a bigger arrangement, or even stripped it down much more than it already is. But putting just a touch more emotion into the vocals brings the song out of the black and into the blue (so to speak). I love it.
Oh, and unrelated: a brief complaint about the current ads – I usually don’t mind and understand that you gotta pay the bills with them, but when I try to log in and am prompted to watch a Nike ad instead, it’s frustrating and a bit of a deterrent to actually signing in to comment or anything else. Just FYI.

At the top banner (which I agee sucks, but I don’t sell these ads) there is a minimize button so it’s less intrusive. You only have to click ‘minimize’ it once and it’ll remember your preference.

That was a great xx cover. Probably the most coverable song on the able, which isn’t something I see Damon jumping for, but still great.
