Disappears is a band of Chicago scene veterans, vocalist/guitarist Brian Case (Ponys, 90 Day Men), guitarist Jonathan van Herik (Boas), and bassist Damon Carruesco. Steve Shelley’s currently playing drums, after the recent amicable departure of another ex-Boas dude, Graeme Gibson. The quartet put out their first full-length Lux last year — it was meant to be the final release on Touch & Go, but then the label went under, as did the collection’s release. It finally surfaced on Kanky, who just released Disappear’s sophomore album, Guider. The dark, muscular, hypnotic Spacemen 3/VU-infused garage rock might seem different than Kranky’s usual fare, but it fits nicely with the new-look Belong and some of Deerhunter’s sturdier moments. Here’s a video for “Superstition,” the opening (and briefest) track on the 6-song collection.
