Panda Bear - Tomboy

You heard the 7″ version of “Last Night At The Jetty.” Here’s how sounds after Sonic Boom had his way with it.

  1. well, all my worries about Tomboy being re-mixed have been squashed! great job Mr. Boom!

from what i can tell, he added some bass during the kicks, which was definitely needed. theres also a little more reverb on the vocals, and now the harmonies are a little more distinct. sounds like the percussion bits are more prominent in the mix and show up more often, and the main organ-sounding instrument is pushed up a little as well. and its all the better for it!
(trying not be obsessed, but i think i’m a little obsessed…)

    • I know the feeling (obsession). I’ve been listening to both versions trying to get a good feeling for what it means for the rest of Tomboy. It sounds great. The feel of the song did not change at all, which is good news considering how much I already loved the six-tracks that have been released.

All of the instruments sound fuller (better levels, mixing etc.), but the tones are nearly unchanged. I cannot wait for this one.

      • Add me to the list of the obsessed. I’ve been listening to the live boots for 2 weeks now without rest. The production on this tracks makes me happy for what the album will bring. To me this was one of the tracks that could not be change one bit. It is perfect. The one change that I do like is the vocals on the track, it seems fuller and more passionate compared to the single version of the track.

  2. Yep. This sounds like a proper mix. Kinda felt Jacked upon purchase of the Fat Cat 7″. Cruddy mixing & oddly abrupt song fades/endings. The levels are too high on some parts, and clipped on the systems I played the 7″ on. The vocals are better distinguished here, and properly leveled against the kicks. An improvement.
