I think of Weezer as the James Franco of music. They’ll try anything at least once, so there’s no point in getting excited or frustrated or puzzled by their next move. It’s too exhausting. So here’s Weezer doing the State Farm jingle. It’s on the official State Farm YouTube channel, so they probably commissioned this for a commercial or something:
(via We All Want Someone)
Earlier the band had participated in a State Farm wish-granting promotion, fulfilling a fan’s wish to play drums with Weezer.

I’m pretty sure Barry Manilow actually wrote the State Farm jingle – at least the part that goes “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”.
You’re right! He also wrote the Band-Aids jingle (“I am stuck on Band-Aids..”). So this is also a Barry Manilow cover.
Ironically, Barry Manilow did not write “I Write the Songs”.
This is probably my favorite Weezer song since Pinkerton.
I fully agree
Lyrics aside, this is the closest thing to vintage Weezer in a very long time.
“Weezer just covered the State Farm jingle. I don’t think this is to sell out, so much as it is to rile up a bunch of nervous hipsters and watch them unravel. Like a sweater. (See what I did there?) (Stereogum)”

Perhaps they just want to help out a worthy charity? Perhaps earnestness is the new irony?
